How to fix Facebook app that keeps crashing on Samsung Galaxy S10e [Troubleshooting Guide]

Unlike the previous Galaxy flagships, the Samsung Galaxy S10e won’t have Facebook as a pre-installed app. It’s a third party in the first place and should be treated as such. This means that people who often use Facebook will have to download the app from the Play Store and install it and if they also want to enjoy the benefits of instant messaging, they also have to install the Messenger app.

However, after installing the app, some users reported that the app started to keep on crashing for some reason. This isn’t a serious issue for most of the users but for facebookers out there, it is a very annoying problem. Don’t worry though as this issue is very easy to fix and in this post, I will share with you the solution that worked with other users and may work with you, too. So, continue reading as this article may be able to help you one way or another.

Fixing Facebook that keeps crashing on Galaxy S10e

In troubleshooting third-party applications that keep on crashing, we have to be thorough, so we’ll start this guide by ruling out one possibility after another. Here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Force reboot your Galaxy S10e

System and app glitches happen all the time and this could be just one of those cases. So, start your troubleshooting by performing the most basic yet very effective procedure–the forced restart.

  • Press and hold the volume down button and power key simultaneously for 10 seconds or more.

This will reboot the phone like it normally does but the memory of your Galaxy S10e will be refreshed and all its apps and services reloaded. This might be the only procedure you have to do to make Facebook work again. So, once the device becomes active, open Facebook and try to use it and see if it still crashes or not. If the problem continues, then try the next solution.

Second solution: Reset Facebook app

An app reset means to delete its cache and data. We’ve already ruled out the possibility that the problem is just a minor glitch so now, we’ll rule out the possibility that it’s just an issue with the app itself. More often, when this problem occurs you would get the error “Unfortunately, Facebook has stopped” and most of the time it means just like that. So, an app reset should be able to fix it and here’s how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Find and tap Facebook.
  4. Tap Storage > CLEAR CACHE > CLEAR DATA > DELETE.

After this procedure, open the app and then lock into your account again. An app reset will automatically log you out of the app as the data files are deleted including the cookies that store your login credentials.

Continue using the app like you always do and if the problem still continues, then you will have to move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Try to update the app

Facebook always makes sure its applications are up-to-date. That’s why updates are rolled out regularly especially if many users reported of the same problem. In such case, updating the app would fix the problem and that’s the next thing you should do. Here’s how you update facebook:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Play Store > Menu > My Apps.
  3. To auto-update apps, tap Menu > Settings > Auto-update apps.
  4. Find and tap Facebook.
  5. Now, tap Update to update it.

Based on our experience, these three procedures are enough to fix problems like this but if the issue continues, you have no other choice but to do the next procedure.

Fourth solution: Uninstall Facebook and reinstall it

Issues with third-party applications are often solved when you uninstall and reinstall them. It’s a very effective method but very easy to do. Don’t worry, none of your files, pictures or posts will be deleted if you did this. Here’s how to uninstall it:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Find and tap Facebook.
  4. Tap UNINSTALL > OK.

To reinstall it, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Play Store.
  2. Search for ‘facebook’.
  3. Tap Install to begin the installation process. This will take just a few minutes to complete.
  4. Now, tap Open to launch the app.
  5. Sign in to your account and enjoy.

I am confident that this will fix the problem and make you use Facebook without any issue again. But, if for some reason, the problem will come in the future, then you have to resort to a factory reset. Make sure to backup your files and data before resetting your device as they will be deleted and you may not be able to retrieve them. Here’s how to factory reset your Galaxy S10e:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
  2. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  3. Tap Settings > Accounts and backup > Backup and restore.
  4. Tap the following sliders to desired setting:
    • Back up my data
    • Automatic restore
  5. Tap the Back key (bottom right) until you reach the main Settings menu.
  6. Tap General Management > Reset > Factory data reset.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, then tap RESET > DELETE ALL.
  8. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your credentials.
  9. If prompted to verify your Samsung account, enter the password, then tap CONFIRM.
  10. Wait for the device to reset.
