Power up Google Pixel 3a in Safe mode

You can also directly make your phone power up into safe mode. This will become useful if your device can no longer boot up successfully into normal mode. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure the phone is powered down.
  2. Press and hold the Power key until the Google logo shows on the screen and then release.
  3. With the logo still on the screen, press and hold the Volume down button.
  4. Your phone will continue to boot up but continue holding down the volume button until you see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

When in safe mode, you can continue using the phone normally except that you can only use the pre-installed apps. Third-party applications are temporarily disabled while your phone is in this mode. However, if you have issues with one of them, you can go into Settings and then uninstall it. After removing the problematic app, you may reboot the phone into normal mode.
