Others panicked thinking it’s a very serious hardware problem because apparently, the phone no longer responds no matter how long the power key is pressed. But the thing is it’s actually just a very minor problem and there’s always something you can do to make your phone respond again.
In this post, we will troubleshoot your phone and see if we can make it turn back on. I will share with you a couple of procedures that may make your Galaxy S10 Plus work perfectly again. We will consider a few possibilities and rule them out one by one until we can determine what the real issue is. What to do with Galaxy S10 Plus that blacked out and won’t turn on
Firmware issues aren’t really that hard to fix but they can be so pesky because for those who don’t know what to do if such problems happen, they may immediately take a trip to the shop or store only to be told that the problem is not that serious or be charged with a couple of hundreds of dollars for a problem they could just fix on their own. We want to prevent that from happening so if you’re willing to do something about it, here’s what you need to do:
First solution: Forced restart
This must be the first thing you have to do. In fact, this could be the only thing you need to do to make your blacked out Galaxy S10 Plus work perfectly again. If you’re familiar with the battery pull procedure we often do to phones with removable batteries, this is its counterpart only that it’s done on phones with non-removable batteries. In other words, it’s a simulated battery removal that has been proven effective in fixing problems like this. Basically, this is how you do it:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key together for 15 seconds or more.
More often than not, your blacked out Galaxy S10 Plus will boot up if you’ve done this procedure properly. If it does not, then do the same procedure a few more times. If it still won’t boot up after this, then you should try the following:
- Press and hold the Volume down button first and don’t release it.
- While holding down the volume button, press and hold the power key as well.
- Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or more.
This is basically the same as the first procedure only that this time we’re making sure that you press and hold the volume down button before the power key because doing it otherwise won’t give you the same result.
If this is just one of the cases of a firmware crash, your phone should be able boot up by now. If not, then you should perform the next procedure.
Second solution: Charge your phone and perform the forced restart
Having a drained battery is not really a problem, is it? But the thing is there’s a possibility that the firmware would crash if you allow the phone to run out of battery. That could be the cause why your Galaxy S10 Plus has blacked out. Don’t worry though as this problem is fixable. Here’s what you need to do:
- Plug the original charger to a working wall outlet. It’s best to use a wired charger for this.
- Connect your phone to its charger using the original cable.
- Regardless whether your phone show the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes.
- After which, press and hold the volume down button and the power key for 15 seconds or more.
If your Galaxy S10 Plus blacked out due to a minor firmware issue, then this should fix the problem. However, if it remains unresponsive or won’t turn on, then it’s probably a hardware issue. For this, you have to bring the phone to the store or shop so that a technician can check it up for you.
On the other hand, if you were able to make your phone respond after this but continues to freeze or become unresponsive, then the best thing you can do about it is reset your phone. However, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted. - Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Galaxy S10+ logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy S10 Plus will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
