The procedures that we want you to perform here are designed to determine what caused the issue on your Galaxy A5 because knowing the cause is often the first step in fixing the problem. Here’s what I suggest you do about your Galaxy A5 that won’t respond…

First solution: Do a Forced Reboot

This will simulate battery disconnect which is equivalent to the battery pull procedure we often do to phone with removable batteries. Doing this method will close all applications running in the background and refreshes phone’s memory. So, if a glitch in the system triggered it, then this step might fix it. Just press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys simultaneously for 10 seconds or until the device reboots. However, if the phone is still not responding after this, try doing the same procedure a couple more times or do this:

  1. Press and hold the volume down first and don’t let it go.
  2. Then, press and hold the power key while holding down the volume down button.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.

If your Galaxy A5 is still not responding after doing this, then there’s a possibility that the battery got drained completely. Move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Charge your phone and do the forced reboot

When the phone reaches a point wherein the battery is critically low, some services and hardware components are automatically powered off or stopped but there are times when other components are left out when the phone loses power. That will result to a system crash, which is naturally easy to fix but then again, even if your phone may respond to the forced reboot, if there’s not enough battery to power it up, then it still won’t respond. So, you need to charge it first but we already know that if the firmware has crashed, the phone won’t respond to its charger either. So, here’s what I suggest you do about it:

  1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet. It’s imperative you use the wired charger.
  2. Using the original cable, connect your phone to its charger.
  3. Regardless whether the phone shows it’s charging or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Press and hold the volume down first and don’t let it go.
  5. Then, press and hold the power key while holding down the volume down button.
  6. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.

If your Galaxy A5 is still not responding after this, then there’s a possibility the problem is caused by a hardware issue. However, I still want you to try running the phone in recovery mode and if successful, you can consider the problem fixed but I recommend you master reset the device to fix the issue:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If all else fails, you should bring the device to a local shop so that a technician can check it up for you.
