Troubleshooting Galaxy A5 Facebook app that keeps crashing

Mostly, this type of issue is just limited to the app alone and you can fix it through simple procedures. Don’t you worry, these methods that you should do are safe and very effective in fixing minor problems like this.

Step 1: Perform Soft reset

If this problem is a result of a minor glitch, then a soft reset will be able to fix it. It refreshes device’s memory and close those unnecessary services running in the background. So, if this is just a minor glitch in the system, then this is all you need to do…

  • Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time for 10 seconds and wait until reboots.

Once the phone becomes active after the reboot, open Facebook to know if it would still crash or not. If it does, then move on to the next step.

Step 2: Delete Facebook’s cache and data

In this section, we have to bring back the app to its default settings by deleting all its cache and data. As what I’ve mentioned earlier, if this issue is limited to the app alone, then this procedure might be able to fix it. Follow these steps to reset your Facebook app:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Facebook.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear cache.
  7. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.

If the problem continues, there’s a possibility that it’s a compatibility issue between the app and the firmware. Try the next step.

Step 3: Update your Facebook app

Since Facebook comes pre-installed on your Galaxy A5, you can’t uninstall and reinstall it to make sure you have the latest version. Therefore, you need to update it via Play Store.

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Play Store.
  3. Tap the Menu key and then tap My Apps. To keep your apps automatically updated, tap the Menu key, tap Settings, and then tap Auto-update apps to select the check box.
  4. Tap Facebook and then tap Update to update it. If the Update button is disabled, it means there’s no available update for the app.

After the update and the app still crashes, we can assume it’s an issue with the firmware. You should try the next procedure.

Step 4: Wipe the System Cache Partition

Sometimes, due to corrupt files in the cache directory, the system could no longer perform its tasks normally and this may result to the crashing of some apps. To rule out such possibility, you need to wipe the cache directory so that everything in it will be replaced with new ones.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Test facebook to see if it would still crash after wiping the cache partition and if it still does, then move on to the next procedure as you don’t have any more options.

Step 5: Perform Master reset on your Galaxy A5

At this point, you have no other choice but to reset your phone. However, make sure you backup all your files and data as they will be deleted. This will bring the device back to its factory settings and will make it work as smoothly as before. The Oreo update, however, will remain so don’t worry about it.

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  5. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  6. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  7. Press Power button to select.
  8. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  9. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  10. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  11. Press the Power key to restart the device.
