Restart device in recovery mode
Recovery mode is a default hidden feature on all Android devices. You can enter this mode to carry out necessary system procedures like firmware update and system restore to fix more complex issues affecting the device functions. If the problem is caused by a more complex firmware glitch, booting the device into recovery mode and carry out necessary functions like wiping the cache partition can possibly offer some remedies. You can enter recovery mode on your Galaxy A5 using the hardware buttons, or via ADB on Windows or Mac computers. To make things simple, let’s proceed with the hardware buttons. Here’s how it’s done:
- Power off your device.
- Press and hold the Home, Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously for a few seconds until you’ll see the Android bot icon and message that says, Installing software update. - In this case, press the Volume Down key to highlight Wipe cache partition then press the Power key to confirm selection.
- When your device is finished wiping cache from the system partition, press the Power key to select the Reboot system now option.
This will trigger your device to restart and go back to Android OS.
Reset device in recovery mode/master reset
Consider a full system reset as your last resort should all else failed to fix the problem and your Galaxy A5 remains stuck on boot screen after carrying out prior procedures. What you are dealing with can be a complex issue caused by some bad segments, system bug, or corrupted OS that can only be rectified by a full reset or master reset. You have to note though that you will lose all your critical data in this process so be sure to back them up beforehand. Should you wish to proceed with a master reset, here’s how it’s done:
- Switch off your phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons simultaneously for about 10 to 20 seconds.
- Release the buttons when you see the Samsung logo followed by the recovery menu.
- Press the Volume Up/Down buttons to navigate and select Wipe data/factory reset from the Recovery Menu options.
- Press the Power button to confirm.
- Press the Volume button again to highlight Yes — delete all user data then press the Power button to confirm selection.
- Wait until your device is finished wiping user data and when it’s done, the Reboot system now option will be highlighted.
- Then press the Power button to restart your phone.
Your device is now reset and restored to its factory defaults. This will give your device a clean fresh start.
Other options to consider
- Use a dedicated Android recovery software. In addition to device resets, you can also use a dedicated software to recover or restore your Galaxy A5. A lot of these tools can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Just pick the most credible and compatible software with your computer then download and install it. You will have to connect your phone to your computer then attempt to fix it using the Android recovery software you have installed.
