If your Galaxy Tab S5e won’t charge, there can be a number of possible reasons for that. Check out the troubleshooting steps below to fix this problem.

Tab S5e won’t charge fix #1: Restart the device

Before doing any device troubleshooting, it’s always a good idea to start with a system refresh. A lot of minor bugs are fixed by simply restarting a device. In your case, we recommend that you go beyond the usual restart and do a forced reboot. This is basically a restart with the aim of clearing the system by simulating the effects of a battery pull. To do that, simply press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for about 10 seconds. Once the phone has restarted, release the buttons. This is usually effective in clearing bugs that developed when a system is left running for some time. We suggest that you restart your Tab S5e using this method at least once a week to lessen the chances of bugs.

For some Galaxy Tab S5e, there may be a slightly different way to arrive at the same method. Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. You can use the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Wait for up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.

The next logical step to do here is to ensure that the problem is not coming from your charging cable and adapter. To do that, you need to either get a new set of charging accessories, or borrow confirmed working cable and adapter. Most cases of charging problems on Samsung Galaxy devices are caused by faulty accessories. If you have a family member with the same device, try to use his or her charging cable and adapter and see if that will jumpstart charging. If you can’t readily find a charging cable or adapter, visit your local Samsung store to try their own accessories.

If you’ve confirmed that there’s no issue coming from your charging accessories, the next step would be to ensure that the charging port is not blocked. Sometimes, dirt or lint may get inside the port and prevent the cable from connecting properly. To check the port, you can use a magnifying tool. If there’s obvious sign of dirt or lint inside, use a can of compressed air to clear it out.

Sometimes, an Android device may reboot on its own if the battery and OS are buggy. Power management system is a complex software environment and sometimes, a glitch may affect the OS in reading battery levels. This can sometimes lead to random reboot troubles. To ensure that this does not happen, especially to a new phone, you want to recalibrate the battery and Operating System. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Drain the battery completely. This means using your device until it powers down by its own and the battery level reads 0%.
  2. Charge the phone until it reaches 100%. Be sure to use original charging equipment for your device and let it charge up completely. Do not unplug your device for at least two more hours and also don’t use it while charging.
  3. After the elapsed time, unplug your device.
  4. Restart the device.
  5. Use your phone until it completely runs out of power again.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5.

Tab S5e won’t charge fix #5: Charge on Safe Mode

At times, a bad app may interfere with Android and prevent charging. To check, run your phone on safe mode and see how it charges. While on safe mode, no third party apps or services will be allowed to run. So, if one of the third party apps is responsible for the issue, your S9 should charge normally on safe mode.

To boot your device to safe mode:

  1. With your Tab S5e off, press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  2. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  3. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  4. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  5. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  6. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

To know which app is causing a problem, follow these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Galaxy Tab S5e still refuses to power back on, repeat steps 1-4.

Tab S5e won’t charge fix #6: Check for water damage

One of the possible causes why your Galaxy Tab S5e won’t charge can be presence of water or moisture in the charging port. If you recently exposed your Galaxy Tab S5e to water, it’s possible that there may be moisture inside. This can prevent the device from charging. Normally, your device should show a “Moisture detected” warning in such situation. Not getting one though does not mean the charging port is 100% free of moisture. If you suspect that the charging port may be wet, consider drying the phone.

An easy way to do home drying is by using uncooked rice or packs of silica gel (the thing that comes with your shoe box). If using rice, make sure cover your device with fully with it. Then, seal the container and leave the phone there for at least 48 hours.

A more effective way to home dry your device is to use silica gel packs instead of rice. It absorbs moisture faster than rice so you can cut the drying time for about half the time. So, instead of leaving the device inside a sealed container for 2 days, 24 hours will do.  You can get silica gel packs from your local crafts store.

Tab S5e won’t charge fix #7: Clear cache partition

Sometimes, SMS or network issues may appear if your Galaxy Tab S5e’s system cache is corrupted or outdated. This usually occurs when the software is updated, or when there’s a new app installed. A corrupt system cache can cause performance issues as well as a bunch of other minor annoyances. To ensure that your phone’s system cache is fresh, you can wipe the cache partition. This will force the phone to delete the current cache and replace it with a new one over time.

To wipe the cache partition on your Galaxy Tab S5e:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.

Wiping the device with factory reset is a good troubleshooting step to determine if there’s an unknown software bug behind your problem. Make sure to create a backup of your personal data first to avoid losing them. Below are the two ways to factory reset your Tab S5e:

Method 1: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e via Settings Menu

This is the easiest way to wipe your Galaxy Tab S5e. all you have to do is to go under Settings menu and follow the steps below. We recommend this method if you have no trouble going under Settings.

  1. Create a backup of your personal data and remove your Google account.
  2. Open Settings app.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. Select Factory data reset from the given options.
  6. Read the information then tap Reset to continue.
  7. Tap Delete All to confirm action.

Method 2: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e using hardware buttons

If your case is that the phone is not booting up, or it boots but Settings menu is inaccessible, this method can be helpful. First, you need to boot the device to Recovery Mode. Once you successfully access Recovery, that’s the time that you begin proper master reset procedure. It may take some tries for you before you can access Recovery so be patient and simply try again.

  1. If possible, create a backup of your personal data ahead of time. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
  2. Also, you want to make sure that you remove your Google account. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
  3. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  4. Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Bixby button at the same time.
  5. While still holding the Volume Up and Bixby keys, press and hold the Power button.
  6. The Recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
  7. Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
  8. Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
  9. Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
  10. Press the Power button to confirm factory reset.

Should none of the software solutions above fail to fix the issue, you should consider sending the phone in. Samsung needs to check it physically so they can determine what hardware component is faulty. There’s no software tweak that can do this so at this point, there’s not much that you can do.
