5 Best International SIM Cards For Traveling to Latvia

Latvia is one of the smaller nations in Europe; however, it's still an international country, and as such, traveling there without an international or local SIM card could cost you hundreds, if not thousands in overage fees back home. International and local SIM cards give you access to data, talk, and text on the cheap. It's not uncommon to get this type of phone access for around half of what it would cost in the US either.

Traveling to Europe and looking for phone and data connections?  We recommend the Orange Holiday Europe prepaid international Sim card.  Works in 30 of the largest countries in Europe.

That said, if you're headed out to Latvia, here are the five best SIMs to choose from when traveling to this European nation. Let's dive right in.

Orange Holiday SIM

Coming up as our number one and favorite choice, we're looking at Orange's very own Holiday SIM. This one is our favorite because the value for money is out of this world. Access to data, talk, and text is exponentially cheaper than what you'd find in the United States and most non-EU countries. You get fast 4G LTE data in around thirty countries across the EU, with Latvia being on the list, too.

With your purchase, you get a whopping 10GB of 4G LTE data that you can use for 14 days. There's also two hours of talk time, and then another 1,000 SMS messages to use in addition to your data. When you top off, the duration of the SIM is extended, and you can load up whenever needed.

UK Europe ThreeUK SIM Card

ThreeUK is one of our favorite choices, as it's right up there with the Orange Holiday SIM. They offer tons of different SIM combinations, but this one might be their most competitive choice. Just like Orange, this SIM card will give you data access, and then phone and text minutes.

You actually get access to a whopping 12GB of data, 3000 minutes in talk time and 3000 messages. You can use it up as needed, and then refill whenever you'd like.

Mobal Europe Plus SIM

Second up, we have the Mobal Europe Plus SIM.  The Mobal SIM card is one of the more unique choices out there. It's a little on the pricier side of things, but still beats roaming charges for the most part. Talk and text rates are bundled together, and they actually charge you 30¢ per minute rates in all countries, though rates are cheaper when calling to the US or Canada.

There's 1GB of data bundled inside as well, but you are charged for every 1GB used.

This certainly isn't the most ideal choice, as this SIM card is attached to your credit or debit card. The plus is that you can use as much or as little as you'd like, but that your card is automatically billed for your usage.

Internet with legs Trio

Next, we're looking at ThreeUK's "Internet with legs Trio" SIM card. While still developed by ThreeUK, this one gives unlocked GSM phones a whole 3GB of data for on the go use while traveling through the EU. You'll have the same great data speeds while in Latvia; however, one of the more unique things about this one is that it doesn't come with talk or text ability. That all has to be done over your data connection, which limits you to instant messenger style apps, such as WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.

ThreeUK designed this one with easy, no hassle setup -- there's no activation required, essentially acting as a plug and play SIM card. Setup is easy -- just set the SIM card in your phone, and you're ready to roll.

Keep in mind that this one is only used with unlocked GSM phones.

Keepgo Global Lifetime SIM Card

And finally, we have Keepgo's very own Global Lifetime SIM card. It might be last up on our countdown, but is still way better than any roaming charges back home. It actually operates on a similar level to Mobal, with Keepgo only giving you 1GB of data that you can use, but it can be refilled as needed. Since there's no talk or text features, you'll have to use your data for that over WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.

Keepgo designed their SIM card to work with unlocked GSM phones, so CDMA phones need not apply here.

Verdict

As you can see, there are a lot of different SIM cards available for traveling internationally. Our favorite is the Orange Holiday SIM, which provides you with tons of data, as well as talk and text access when traveling to most European countries. On top of that, it has a ton of value for money with it as well, costing much less than what it would in the US for around 10GB of data.
