Troubleshooting Galaxy S9 with Play Store error 492

The main reason that you need to perform these troubleshooting procedures is to determine all possibilities and resolve the issue. Here are the things that you should do if you encounter Play Store error 492 on your Samsung Galaxy S9…

First Solution: Perform Soft Reset

Issue like this often occurs on android devices due to a minor glitch in the system. So, this time, we recommend you to perform soft reset on your Galaxy S9. This has the same effect as with the battery pull procedure for devices that have removable batteries. It refreshes the phone’s memory and reload all apps and services running in the background. Here’s how you do it:

  • Press and hold Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time for 10 seconds or more and wait until it reboots.

After the soft reset, open Play Store app and see if the error 492 still appears. If so, proceed to the next step.

Second Solution: Delete Play Store Cache and Data

Another reason that Play Store error 492 occurs on your phone is due to outdated or corrupted cache and data file. To rule this out,  you need to reset your Play Store app by deleting its files and data so that the device can generate fresher ones. This is how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Tap the 3 dots icon (at the upper right)
  5. Tap Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  6. Find and tap Google Play Store.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Tap Clear cache.
  9. Tap OK.
  10. Restart the device and check for the problem.

Third Solution: Reset Network Settings

In this instance, we need to make sure that you have a strong internet connection because if you don’t have, that may be the reason that the installation process halted without apparent reason. So, through network reset your devices will be disconnected temporarily from your Home Wifi.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
  3. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS. Once complete, a confirmation window will appear.

After doing this, restart your phone and open your Play Store app and see if the error 492 still appears on your screen. If it continues, jump over to the next step.

Fourth Solution: Perform Factory Reset

If all procedures failed to resolve the issue, then your last resort is to perform a reset on your phone. In other words, we have to bring back the device to its default settings and all files and data saved in its internal storage will be wiped out. Unlike other methods this one is more hassle because you need to spend time creating a backup on all your files and data saved in the internal storage.

When backing up is finished don’t forget to remove your Google and Samsung accounts to avoid your device from lock out. This is how you reset your Samsung Galaxy S9:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

I am pretty confident that a master reset will fix the Play Store error 492 as it’s mostly a firmware problem provided that the firmware hasn’t been modified in any way.
