How to fix Galaxy S10 wifi “internet may not be available” error

Internet may not be available fix #1: Verify wifi is working
If you’re having trouble with your home wifi lately, there’s a chance that the problem may not be coming from your Galaxy S10 but from your own wifi network. There may be a problem with the router or with your Internet Service Provider. So, the first thing that you want to do is to find whether or not the wifi itself is working fine. You can either connect your S10 to another known working wifi network, or check your wifi using another wireless device. If you have another phone or laptop, you can use that to check the status of your wifi. If the second device connects to the internet fine using your wifi, you must continue with device troubleshooting below. If it’s otherwise, you should contact your ISP for help in fixing your wifi network.
Internet may not be available fix #2: Do network powercycle
If you’ve confirmed that your wifi works normally, the next troubleshooting step is to refresh the network. This can sometimes work in allowing new devices to connect to the router, or for old, previously connected ones to reconnect. To perform this step, you must first unplug the modem or router from the power outlet for about 10 seconds. This should allow the device to refresh its system. If you have other wireless devices in between the router and your phone like wifi signal boosters, unplug them as well for the same duration. Once the time is up, turn on the modem/router first, followed by other devices your network. If you don’t have secondary devices to your modem or router, then simply ignore them. Just powercycle the router for 10 seconds.
Internet may not be available fix #3: Forced reboot
On your device, you want to make sure that you restart it as well. We suggest that you do a soft reset instead of the regular restart to also clear the RAM in the process. Soft reset is the equivalent of pulling out the battery in older devices. Here’s how it’s done:
- Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 12 seconds or until the device power cycles. Note: Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
- From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. Note: Utilize the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Allow up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.
- If Maintenance Boot Mode screen won’t show, then your device does not have it. Simply wait for the device to power down completely.
Internet may not be available fix #4: Disconnect wifi
Disconnecting or forgetting wifi is a basic wifi troubleshooting step. By doing so, you are forcing the device to update its wifi data (username, password, settings). Wifi connections may become buggy if there are settings that need to be changed. By forcing the phone to disconnect and reconnect, these new settings will be implemented. Before you disconnect from your wifi, be sure that you know the password so as not to cause any problem when reconnecting later on.
To disconnect from your wifi:
- Pull down the notification bar from the top of the screen.
- Tap and hold Wifi.
- Select your wifi network.
- Tap Forget button.
After forgetting and reconnecting to your wifi network, check for the problem again.
Internet may not be available fix #5: Keep device updated
There are errors or bugs that may require changes to software or app codes. To lessen the chances of problems from occurring, it’s always a good idea to keep your device updated. You can do that by always downloading and installing Android, carrier, or app updates as they come along. By default, your S10 should notify you of any updates so all you have to do is to tap on the notification and go ahead with the update.
For apps, Google Play Store is where you go to manually update them. Just open the Play Store app, go under its Settings menu, tap My apps & games, and hit UPDATE ALL.
If you have apps taken outside the Play Store, it’s your job to keep them updated. If you don’t know how to update a particular third party app, contact its developer.

Another basic software troubleshooting that you can do in this case is to clear the current network settings. This can sometimes work in cases wherein there’s a network bug due to incorrect settings, or if there’s changes that doesn’t work. Here’s how to do it:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap General management.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Reset network settings.
- Tap Reset settings to confirm.
Internet may not be available fix #7: Check wifi on Safe Mode
A third party app may sometimes interfere with Android and cause a problem. To check if you’ve installed a bad app recently, boot the device to safe mode. In this mode, all third party apps will be suspended. So, if Internet may not be available error won’t show up while your S10 runs on safe mode, that’s a clear indication of a bad app issue.
Here’s how to boot to safe mode:
- Press and hold the Power button until the Power off window appears then release.
- Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode prompt appears then release.
- To confirm, tap Safe mode.
- The process may take up to 30 seconds to complete.
- Upon reboot, “Safe mode” appears in the lower-left of the home screen.
Remember that third-party applications are disabled in this mode so what you can use are pre-installed apps. If the touchscreen issue won’t appear on safe mode, that means that the problem is due to a bad app. Uninstall the app you recently installed and see if that will fix it. If the problem remains, use the process of elimination to identify the rogue app. Here’s how:
- Boot to safe mode.
- Check for the problem.
- Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
- After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
- If your S10 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.
Internet may not be available fix #8: Wipe the phone
We don’t think you’ll ever reach this point but if the problem still remains after doing all the solutions above, something must be wrong with the software or hardware. To check if it’s a software issue, try to factory reset your device. Be sure to back your personal data up first before you wipe.
To factory reset your S10:
Method 1: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy S10 via Settings Menu
- Create a backup of your personal data and remove your Google account.
- Open Settings app.
- Scroll to and tap General management.
- Tap Reset.
- Select Factory data reset from the given options.
- Read the information then tap Reset to continue.
- Tap Delete All to confirm action.
Method 2: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy S10 using hardware buttons
- If possible, create a backup of your personal data ahead of time. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
- Also, you want to make sure that you remove your Google account. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
- Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
- Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Bixby button at the same time.
- While still holding the Volume Up and Bixby keys, press and hold the Power button.
- The Recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
- Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
- Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
- Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
- Press the Power button to confirm factory reset.
