If your Galaxy S10 has a problem with texts or can’t receive MMS, there’s a number of troubleshooting steps that you must do. Learn what you can do to fix it below.

Can’t receive MMS fix #1: Confirm mobile data is ON

If your Galaxy S10 can’t receive MMS, the very first thing that you need to check is to ensure that mobile data is on. MMS, unlike regular texts or SMS, requires cellular data in order to work. If you are on a limited mobile data subscription and your MMS suddenly stops working, it’s probably due to mobile data being suspended. Check with your carrier to confirm this. Unless explicitly stated by your carrier, MMS does not work on wifi. Don’t expect that you can continue sending or receiving MMS if you’re on wifi connection at all.

If your mobile data works but MMS is still not working, continue with the rest of the troubleshooting below.

Can’t receive MMS fix #2: Reset network settings

If MMS was working previously, it’s possible that there may be some network settings that changed. To ensure that all network settings are okay, the second step is to reset them. Resetting network settings resets all data connections back to the out of the box factory defaults. The following changes will occur by performing a Reset of network settings.

  • Stored Wi-Fi networks will be deleted.
  • Paired Bluetooth devices will be deleted.
  • Background data sync settings will be turned on.
  • Data restrictive settings in applications that were manually turned on/off by the customer will be reset to the default setting.
  • Network selection mode will be set to automatic.

To perform a Network reset, follow these steps.

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset Network Settings.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS button.

The steps above will reset wifi, mobile data, and bluetooth settings. This means that you’ll have to enter wifi passwords, re-pair Bluetooth devices, or re-enter VPN credentials again.

Can’t receive MMS fix #3: Delete old conversations

Both received and sent items are stored in the same dedicated storage space in your messaging app. If you regularly send or receive messages with attachments, it’s possible that your messaging app may have run out of space. Try to delete some of your old messages, or those with a lot of attachments to fix the issue. Delete as many as possible to ensure that there’s more than enough space to accommodate incoming texts or MMS. Afterwards, restart the phone and see what happens.

Can’t receive MMS fix #4: Verify APN

If you are not sure if the APN settings are correct or not, you can check the APN settings yourself by doing the following steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile Networks.
  4. Tap Access Point Names.
  5. Select the correct APN.
  6. Configure values as necessary.

Make sure to get the correct APN from your carrier ahead of time.

One of the direct ways to troubleshoot messaging app is to clear its cache. Below are the steps to do it:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).

  5. Find and tap the messaging  app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear cache button.
  8. Restart the device and check for the problem.

Can’t receive MMS fix #6: Reset messaging app

A follow up to the previous troubleshoot step is to reset the app. By reset we mean returning all of its settings to factory defaults and uninstalling its updates. Although clearing the data of messaging app won’t delete your texts, we highly recommend that you create a backup at this stage to prevent accidental loss of your stuff.

To clear an app’s data:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the messaging  app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear data button.
  8. Restart the device and check for the problem.

Can’t receive MMS fix #7: Use another app

If your S10 still can’t receive MMS at this point, you should consider using another app. This will allow you check if there’s an issue with the current one you’re using or not.

Can’t receive MMS fix #8: Wipe the cache partition

There are a lot of good and reliable messaging app from the Play Store. Using Google’s own Android Messages is a good one to try out first.

In order to load apps quickly, Android stores frequently used items like website links, images, videos, ads, among others in a part in internal storage called cache partition. Sometimes, these items collectively called system cache may get outdated or corrupted causing performance problems or bugs. To ensure that you phone runs efficiently and the cache in top shape, you want to regularly clear the cache partition (about once every few months). When dealing with any app issue, this can also be one of the troubleshooting steps. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Can’t receive MMS fix #9: Get help from network operator
