How to fix Galaxy Note9 stuck on Samsung logo screen after updating to Android 9 Pie

Problem: Galaxy Note9 stuck on Samsung logo screen after updating to Android 9 Pie

Hello, I’ve been having issues with turning on my Galaxy Note9, it just stays stuck on the “Samsung Galaxy Note9” black screen (the one that pops up when the phone is restarting and such) and will change into the “Samsung” black screen only after a very long time (the one that pops up after the Samsung Galaxy Note9 screen) and then after a long while again it just goes back to first screen again. i will now explain what happened before that.

I was just on my phone like i always am and it suddenly just froze. For about a minute or two then it came back to normal and then froze again after 5 seconds and it just kept doing that. I went to my laptop to see how to solve the issue, and when i did the “Press the power button with the volume down button” this issue started.

I saw one of your answers to a similar problem of mine, but the answer took into account that it can go to safe mode (and perform other actions), and unfortunately, I can’t even go to safe mode. the only thing that my phone responds to is the “Pressing the power button with the volume down” and the only thing it does is it restarts and does the same thing i told you above over and over again.

My phone was functioning very normally before all of that suddenly happened, and i updated my phone with latest version. this issue started (4/2/2019) (dd/mm/yyyy). I wish that you take my request into consideration, and thank you very much for your time.

Solution: When faced with update problems, there are three possible solutions that you can try.

Solution 1: Wipe the cache partition

If your phone started to act up after you installed an update, the first thing that you want to do is to clear the cache partition. This is portion of your phone’s internal storage that keeps the system cache. Sometimes, this cache gets corrupted after an update, which then leads to problems. Clearing the cache partition deletes the cache and eliminates related problems. Here’s how to clear the cache partition:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.

Solution 2: Factory reset

Wiping the device is a necessary troubleshooting step in your case if the problem returns after clearing the cache partition. You want to check if there’s an underlying software bug that prevents Android from booting up. This procedure is usually effective in dealing with a wide range of software problems, including ones that causes a device to get stuck in bootloop during or after an update. Follow the steps below on how to wipe the phone and return all its software settings to defaults.

  1. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Solution 3: Get Samsung’s help

If both solutions above won’t work or make a difference, you should consider getting help from either your carrier or Samsung. The former may help if they supplied the phone. Otherwise, you should have the phone repaired by Samsung.
