What to do with Fitbit Alta HR that no longer charges

Small electronic devices like your Fitbit Alta HR rely solely on its battery to power it up and while Fitbit did a good job in making their devices efficient enough, you would still need to charge them after a day or two. Normally, there shouldn’t be any issues in charging your Alta HR but when it won’t respond when connected to its charger, something might be off.

In this post, I will guide you in troubleshooting your Fitbit Alta HR that’s no longer charging. We will look into every possible scenario and see if we can make your tracker charge again. After our troubleshooting and it’s still not charging, you always have an option to either call tech support or bring the device back to the store so the technician can check it for you.

Going back to our troubleshooting, here are the things you need to do if your Fitbit Alta HR is no longer charging…

  1. Make sure the USB port or outlet isn’t faulty.
  2. Verify that the contacts on the tracker or charging cable aren’t dirty.
  3. Make sure the tracker is connected securely to the charging cable.
  4. Restart your Fitbit Alta HR as it might be malfunctioning.
  5. Verify that the tracker is not wet.

You may try plugging the charger to a different USB port as there’s always a possibility that the port it’s currently connected to is faulty. Or, you may try using a power bank or a third-party UL-certified wall charger.

After doing this and your Alta HR is still not charging, check to see if the contacts on your tracker are clean as well as the cable you’re using. If there are foreign objects like lint or debris, remove them as they could be obstructing the charging process.

The next thing to do is make sure that the Alta HR is properly connected to the charging cable; it should be loose. Disconnect the cable from the tracker and reconnect it to make sure it fits right in.

Another possibility you need to rule out is that it could just a minor firmware issue. So, refresh your tracker’s memory by restarting it:

  1. Plug your charging cable into a USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
  2. Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on your tracker’s display. Your tracker will begin charging.
  3. Press the button on your charging cable 3 times within a few seconds, briefly pausing between presses. The button is on the end of the charging cable that is plugged into your computer. When you see the Fitbit logo and the tracker vibrates, this means the tracker has restarted.
  4. Unplug your tracker from the charging cable.

After doing the procedures and your tracker is still not charging, then verify that it’s not wet and then bring it back to the store so that a technician can check it for you. The problem could be with the hardware.
