Solved Samsung Galaxy S9+ No Network Error After Software Update

In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S9+ no network error after software update issue and other related problems.

S9+ No Network Error After Software Update

Problem: I have the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus plus with Verizon. Samsung release a update and I installed the update and when the phone rebooted the service was not working unless I was on wifi. Everything work fine before the update.  I called Verizon told them what happen and after being on the phone with 3 people they told me it was not on there end (which is what I kept on telling them over n over n over again). When they was trying to tell me troubleshooting  methods I seen something odd… The Sim card stats is saying

NETWORK: UNKNOWN

SIGNAL STRENGTH: -113 DbM 0asu

MOBILE NETWORK TYPE: UNKNOWN

SERVICE STATE: RADIO OFF

MOBILE NETWORK STATE: DISCONNECTED

Now Verizon tried removing the sim card from my number to added it back but did not work. I think if I can just undo this update back to when it was ship from the factory it would go back to working again. Since my phone is older the 14 days n Verizon won’t fix it. They said to just bring it up to the store and they would call Samsung and see what my opt r…. Can someone please see if there is a fix for this without me having to go through all that BS….With Samsung please…Thanks

Solution: You should try inserting a different Verizon SIM in your phone to check if your current SIM is causing the problem. In case the issue persists then you should check the APN settings of your phone and make sure that it is set correctly. In some cases after a software update this setting gets erased which then causes problems with the device connecting to the network.

For the Verizon carrier the APN settings you should use are listed below.

  • Name: Verizon
  • APN: you can use either internet or vzwinternet
  • Proxy: <Leave in Blank>
  • Port: <Leave in Blank>
  • Username: <Leave in Blank>
  • Password: <Leave in Blank>
  • Server: <Leave in Blank>
  • MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
  • MMS proxy: <Leave in Blank>
  • MMS port: 80
  • MCC: 310
  • MNC: 012
  • Authentication type: <Leave in Blank>
  • APN type: internet + mms

In case the problem persists even with the correct APN settings then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S9+ Bluetooth Connection Drops After Software Update

Problem: Shortly after Verizon did a factory reset of the S9+, I discovered observed WiFi and Bluetooth issues. The WiFi “authentication error” on my home network seems to have resolved itself. It now constantly connects and stays connected to my home network. When the issue was present, I would not be on WiFi when I thought I was and using more mobile data than hoped. The Bluetooth issue has been persistent and frustrating…especially since the S4 and S8 did not and do not have the same issues with the same devices. Issue: While listening to music through Google Play (natively or through Auto Android) (in two cars and with two portable speakers), the bluetooth connection drops. The device stays paired and visible…the connection disconnects. I can rarely listen to two full songs before it starts dropping. The issue never goes away on its own. The new car, pauses the song, automatically reconnects, and then unpauses the song. In the older car and on the portable speakers, the song pauses and waits for me to manually go to the Bluetooth settings on my phone to manually reconnect the device and then hit play again to continue the song. I have a single Bluetooth earbud that I run with (GoNovate Earbud G10) that connects and NEVER drops connection. I don’t listen to music with it; rather I listen to a clicking metronome through the “Simple Metronome” app. That device has audible connection cues “Device connected”, so I can confirm that it connects once and stays connected.

Google search has provided several similar (not exact) symptoms with options to pursue, and I have tried many things. (Note: It is frustrating to troubleshoot because it is not immediately obvious whether a technique worked or not. I have to listen to music for longer than 2 (or more) full songs to see IF something potentially works or not. Usually, it’s one day at a time since my main test is on my drive to work. I can’t try something and immediately know the result.)

Recommended things I have tried that did not resolve the issue:

1) Turn bluetooth off and back on

2) Remove all bluetooth devices and add them back

3) Wipe cache (power, volume +, home, etc.)

4) Remove “Smart Lock” devices

5) Prevent “Auto Android” auto-launch

6) Reboot phone (seems to work for a short time; then the issue revives soon after)

7) Tested with power attached and detached

8) Tested with Otterbox case and without Otterbox case

9) Factory reset (I may not have given this as much time as it required before adding apps back)

(Note: frustrating to have to “start all over”)

I did a boot in Safe Mode, and that seemed to fix the issue, however, since it takes so long to test solutions, I fear how long it may take to uninstall one app at a time to find the ONE or combination of multiple apps that actually causes the issue.

(Note: After getting out of safe mode, it was frustrating to have to repopulate my home screens (adding widgets back, etc.)Other potentially related details:

When I connected bluetooth to the newer car, “Do Not Disturb” activated and refused to deactivate.

(Not related to bluetooth: After the factory reset, I changed my “Messages” notification to “Dew Drops” but everything, including notifications, uses the default notification sound.)

Solution: This appears to be caused by some software glitch. I would recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try checking first if the issue still occurs. In case it does then I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.
