S8 Battery Drains Fast
Problem: My wife and I EACH got one of the same phones, Samsung Galaxy S8, unlocked GSM AT&T, and connected to Tracfone using their Bring Your Own Phone option and SKM. Both phones were charged after arrival and again overnight, both times to 100%. But the batteries are down to 30% in just 2 or 3 hours even when not being used more than once or twice for a text. Our experience with batteries on prior smartphones is far, far better. I’ve looked through settings. I’ve googled. But I’ve not come up with a solution that works. Much of what I read is greek to me so I need good, direct advice on what to set. My wife’s phone has gps turned off. Location is turned off, too. HELP! Thanks. Also, it has done several updates.
Related Problem: My phone recently updated and, for the past few days, has been showing that it’s charging very quickly, but also drops in battery life very quickly while off the charger. I would consider it strictly a battery issue, but it drops to 1% power almost immediately (dimming my screen so it’s hard to see) and then stays working for hours, no matter what apps I’m using. It’s like it’s incorrectly assessing the battery percentage. I’ve restarted it and let it die completely (charged while off and turned back on). No change.
Solution: The first thing that you should do right now is to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem. To do this you have to start the phone in Safe Mode. Make sure to remove the microSD card of the phone if you have one installed.
- Turn the phone off.
- Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
- When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
Try to check if the battery drains fast when the phone operates in this mode. If it doesn’t then you might have installed an app that is causing this problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the problem occurs even in Safe Mode then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check if the battery still drains at a fast rate. If it does then your phone might probably need a battery replacement. I suggest that you have this checked at a service center.
S8 Turning Off Randomly
Problem: My Galaxy S8 battery lasts all day (at least). I am in the habit of closing all open tasks often during the day, but Avast keeps finding dozens of apps “running in the background” anyway. Problem: When I try to take a photo at the same time as a call comes in, or start a text and try to take a photo to attach to it, or do any memory-intensive combination of tasks (look up weather radar maps for example) the phone shuts itself off. It will NOT turn back on until I plug it in, and leave it plugged in while it turns back on. I seldom use 4G; using home wireless instead. Have 4G turned off most of the time, but this happens whether it’s on or off. I tried soft reset. It still crashed while just trying to open my email app last night. I looked up “Advanced Task Killer,” but there are so many apps by that name, I’m not sure which one to download. Sure wish I could get it to stop re-downloading apps I have deleted because I don’t need them (Tripadvisor, Health, etc.). 4.61GB available space in device memory (most photos are on SD card). Why is my phone turning itself off and unable to re-start unless I plug it in (no matter the battery status)?
Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. To do this you will have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check if the issue still occurs. In case it does then this is most likely caused by an internal hardware component that is failing to work. If this is the case then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
