How to hard reset on Huawei Nexus 6P

Hard reset, also known as factory reset, is a good solution for almost all software problems. By doing it, you are reverting all software settings to their defaults thereby refreshing the software environment. The downside of this solution though is the fact that you will also be effectively wiping all customizations and personal data you have saved in the internal storage device. Before doing a hard reset or factory reset, you want to make sure that you remove the Google account from the device. This will ensure that you won’t encounter any issues later on with Factory Reset Protection.

Doing a hard reset will delete the following:

  • contacts
  • Email accounts
  • System and app data
  • App settings
  • Downloaded apps
  • Media (Music, pictures and videos, etc.)
  • Personal data such as photos, videos, etc. that are stored in the internal memory.

Method 1: How to hard reset on Huawei Nexus 6P via Settings Menu

This is the simpler way of wiping your Nexus 6P. We suggest that you use this option as long as Settings menu is accessible. Make sure that you do these two things before doing a hard reset or factory reset:

  • remove the Google account from the device
  • create a backup of your personal data

Once everything is set, follow the steps below to hard reset your Nexus 6P:

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. Open Settings app
  3. Tap Backup and Reset.
  4. Select Factory Data Reset.
  5. Wait for the factory reset to finish and the phone to restart.
  6. Set your phone up again.

Method 2: How to hard reset on Huawei Nexus 6P using hardware buttons

If you are troubleshooting your device and you are unable to access Settings menu, this next method is the answer. Wiping your Nexus 6P using hardware buttons is a common solution for a lot of software troubles. Make sure that you do these two things before doing a hard reset or factory reset:

  • remove the Google account from the device
  • create a backup of your personal data

Once everything is set, follow the steps below to factory reset your Nexus 6P using hardware keys:

  1. Create a backup of irreplaceable data in your internal storage before performing a master reset. If not possible, skip this step and proceed to the next one below.
  2. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  3. Hold the volume and power down buttons simultaneously
  4. When the options screen appears, use the volume down button to select Recovery
  5. Press the power button to confirm your selection
  6. When you see the Android robot, hold down the power button
  7. Keeping the power button held in, press the volume up button
  8. Use the volume down button to navigate to Wipe Data / Factory Reset
  9. Press the power button to confirm your choice
  10. Select Yes – Delete All User Data
  11. Use the power button to confirm your choice
  12. Select Reboot System Now.
  13. Wait for the factory reset to finish and the phone to restart.
  14. Set your phone up again.
