Problem: LG G7 ThinQ keeps saying charging blocked due moisture detected error
Hi, I keep getting notifications that charging is blocked due to moisture/debris being detected in the charging port. However, i used a keyboard cleaner (as suggested by the phone instructions) to clean it out and try it. Nothing has been working. It has not been exposed to water or anything else, that I can think of. My cellular provider (in store) couldn’t figure it out either. Any ideas?? Thanks!
Solution: The LG G7 ThinQ has IP68 rating so it should be able to work despite occasional water or liquid splashes. Technically, IP68 rating means that a device is dust and water proof but only to a certain extent. If your device was exposed to water or liquid prior to the moisture detected error showing up, this simply means that the system has blocked charging due to presence of water, moisture, or liquid in the charging port. You should dry the phone and the charging port using a clean, soft cloth to absorb the water or liquid. If that’s not enough, you can leave the phone in a room with normal room temperature for several hours. Water naturally evaporates after a couple of hours.
If leaving your LG G7 ThinQ to air dry won’t make a difference, that’s probably because there’s residue of wet material inside. This is probably what triggers the system randomly. Do a quick ocular check inside the port with the help of a magnifying tool to see if there’s debris or foreign object in the charging port. If there is, use a can of compressed air to dislodge it. Avoid inserting any object into the port to prevent damaging components.
If there’s no obvious reason for moisture detected error to show up such as debris, presence of water, moisture or liquid in the charging port, it’s possible that the problem may either be a false alarm (software glitch), or damaged component.
To troubleshoot the possibility of a software issue, follow the steps below:
Observe in safe mode
One of the downloaded apps may be to blame. To check, run your device to safe mode with these steps:
- With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
- In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
- When prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
- After your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.
- Uninstall apps that are causing a problem.
Allow your phone to run for at least 24 hours and see if moisture detected error returns. If it doesn’t that means a bad application may be the culprit. To identify which of your apps is causing the trouble, you should boot the phone back to safe mode and follow these steps:
- Boot to safe mode.
- Check for the problem.
- Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
- After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
- If your LG G7 ThinQ is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.
Use another charging cable and adapter
Sometimes, using aftermarket cables or adapter when charging can cause power troubles. If you’ve been using an unofficial LG cable and adapter, this may be the reason for the error. The tip of that cable may not be compatible or has different parameters. Try to use a known working LG cable and adapter to see if there’s a difference.
A drastic way to check if there’s a software bug that mistakenly triggers the system is factory reset. Make sure to back your personal data first before you wipe the phone and return its settings to their defaults.
To factory reset your LG G7 ThinQ:
- Create a backup of your files.
- From the Home screen, tap Settings.
- Tap the ‘General’ tab.
- Tap Restart & reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- If desired, tap the Erase SD card checkbox.
- Tap RESET PHONE.
- Tap Delete all.
- Tap RESET
