How To Fix Google Pixel 3 Shuts Down During Call
Problem: I have a Google Pixell 3. I was on a phone call while the phone was charging, and the battery was at 71% and still charging. While on the call, the phone just randomly shut off and I saw a small red light blink in the right corner and that was the last response I saw from the phone at all. It has been charged with an OEM charger plugged into the wall and it will not turn on. I did troubleshooting with Pixel support and followed all the steps to press the Power button, Power + Volume Down buttons, etc. Nothing is working….help! I will be going to the Verizon store tomorrow since it was purchased through them and Google wasn’t much help beyond basic troubleshooting.
Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to make sure that the phone battery has sufficient charge by following the steps listed below.
Clean the charging port of the phone
Dust and debris will usually accumulate in the charging port of your phone. Once these particles are present in the port it can cause issues with charging the device. It is therefore best to clean the port using a can of compressed air to remove these particles.
Charge the phone using a different charging cord and wall charger
To eliminate the possibility of the problem being caused by your charger you will need to use a different charger. The phone uses the 18W wall charger so make sure that you also use this type of charger. You should also make sure that the charging cord you will be using works on a different device.
Once the battery has sufficient charge it’s time to proceed to the following troubleshooting steps which is done to eliminate any software related glitches that could be causing the problem.
Perform a force restart
The first thing that you need to do in this case is a soft reset. This is usually done when the phone becomes unresponsive but can also be performed for this issue as this step will refresh the phone software .To do this just press and hold the Power button for about 10 to 20 seconds or until it power cycles. Check if the issue still occurs.
Start the phone in Safe Mode
In case the issue still persists then the next step is to check if the problem occurs when the phone is started in Safe Mode.
- With the device powered on, press and hold the Power button until the Power off prompt appears then release.
- Touch and hold Power off until the “Reboot to safe mode” prompt appears then release.
- Tap OK to confirm.
Does the phone start successfully in this mode? If it does then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Perform a factory reset
One last troubleshooting step that you should do is a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition. Take note that when you perform this step your phone data will be deleted.
- Hold the Power Button Until the Phone Is Off
- Hold the Power Button and the Volume Down Button for a Few Seconds
- Wait to See Fastboot Mode on the Screen
- Let Go of the Buttons
- Select Recovery Mode
- Wait for the Android Robot Image to Pop Up
- Hold Down the Power Button and Then Press the Volume Up Button
- Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Select Yes
- Select Reboot System Now
In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component.
