Hardware-related issues often require service but those that associated with software problems can likely be dealt with by some workarounds. Highlighted in this post are a few helpful solutions and suggested workarounds to address a similar issue on random reboots transpiring on the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro (2018) smartphone. How to fix Galaxy J2 Pro 2018 that keeps rebooting
Before you begin to troubleshoot, try to remove any SD card from your device. There are similar instances when a phone could not get to perform properly because the SD card is corrupted. Should this be the underlying cause, then removing the faulty SD card is the only thing that’s needed to fix the issue. Otherwise, move on and troubleshoot software problems that might have caused your device to misbehave. Here are your options.
First solution: Force restart.
A force restart is an alternative method to reboot and unfreeze a frozen device. It effectively clears any system errors and bugs that caused the device to act up and get stuck.
To do so, press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously for about 10 to 20 seconds and then release the buttons when the phone restarts.
If your phone is responding to touches, you can do the usual reboot or soft reset instead. It works the same as a force restart but with some slight variations on how it’s carried out.
To do a soft reset, press the Power button for a few seconds until the menu options show up on the screen. Tap to select Power off option and then tap OK to confirm. Wait for about 30 seconds then press the Power button again to turn your phone back on.
Both the force restart and soft reset won’t affect any data stored on the internal memory of your device, therefore nothing will be deleted in the process.

Second solution: Boot into safe mode and diagnose applications.
Booting your phone in safe mode can help you determine if the problem is attributed to a third-party app or not. Only the built-in apps are permitted to run in safe mode and third-party apps are temporarily disabled. That said, if the problem does not occur in safe mode, then a third-party app is to blame. Otherwise, the issue is on the phone system. To figure that out, follow these steps to enable Safe mode on your Galaxy J2 Pro (2018):
- With the device turned on, press and hold down the Power button until the Samsung logo appears and the menu options to show up on the screen.
- When the menu options appear, tap Restart twice. Your phone will then restart.
- While the phone is restarting, press and hold the Volume Down button for a few seconds and then release when the phone is done booting up.
- You should then see the Safe Mode badge on the bottom left corner of the screen. That means your phone is already running in safe mode.
If the problem doesn’t occur while in safe mode, try to uninstall any suspected apps from your device. To give you some clue, think of which app you’ve downloaded recently. It’s likely the one before the problem started. Don’t forget to test your device after deleting an app to find out if the problem is already resolved. Otherwise, continue to troubleshoot software problems your device.
Third solution: Update software to the latest version, if available.
Among the benefits of installing new software (Android) update are performance and stability. Updates can also resolve device issues inflicted by bugs and system errors. And this might be key to fixing your phone. You can check for new updates via over-the-air (OTA). Your phone must be connected to the Internet for you to do so. Here’s how to check for the latest software version over-the-air on your Galaxy J2 Pro (2018):
- Go to Settings.
- Tap About device.
- Tap Software update.
You will see an update notification if a new version available. Before you download and install new update, make sure your battery is over 50 percent and your phone has enough memory, at least 1GB available storage space.
Then, follow the onscreen instructions to download and install new software update on your device.
Alternatively, you can check and update your phone on a computer using Samsung Kies. To get started, install Samsung Kies on your computer and then connect your device to the computer via USB cable. Simply follow the onscreen instructions in the Samsung Kies software upgrade menu to complete the entire process.
Fourth solution: Wipe cache partition.
Wiping the cache partition is recommended if your device is starting to act up after installing a new update. This clears out temporary files from with the system partition including those that are corrupted and erratic. Unlike a factory reset, wiping cache partition does not affect any data saved on the internal memory, hence won’t result to data loss. Here’s how it’s done:
- Press and hold down the Power button until your phone shuts down.
- While it’s turned off, press and hold the Volume Up, Home, and Power buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
- Release the buttons when the Samsung logo appears.
- Tap on the screen when the Android logo with No Command label appears. Your device should now be in recovery mode.
- Press the Volume Down button several times to highlight Wipe cache partition from the given options.
- Then press the Power button to confirm.
- Wait until the device is done wiping the cache partition and prompts to reboot system now. Press the Power button to confirm and instigate system restart.
Test and see how your device performs after wiping the cache partition. If everything goes back to normal, then you’re good. Otherwise, you’ll need to try other advanced solutions.
Fifth solution: Factory reset/master reset.
As your last resort, you can perform a factory reset or master reset on your Galaxy J2 Pro (2018). This can be the key to fixing the problem if it’s triggered by some tough bugs or complex system errors on the phone. The only downside is that you will lose all your files including personal information, customized settings, and downloaded apps, as everything will be deleted in the process. Any tough bugs are also obliterated. If you wish to proceed, then don’t forget to create a backup of all your critical data beforehand. Then follow these steps, whenever you’re ready:
- Open the Apps menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to and tap General management.
- Tap Reset.
- Select Factory data reset from the given options.
- Read and review the message then tap Reset.
- Tap Delete All to confirm system reset.
Allow your device to complete the system reset and restore the default settings on your phone. It will reboot automatically when it’s done. You can set up your device as new afterwards. Typically, any software issues on the phone is gone after performing a master reset. That said, your device should be good by now. If not, then it needs service.
If none of the aforementioned procedures worked and that random reboots still occur on your Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro (2018) smartphone, you can take it to a service center for hardware assessment and/or repair. The problem could be due to some damaged physical components on your device either physical or liquid damage, which requires service.
