How to fix Galaxy Note9 “Network not available. Please try again later.” error

Hello and welcome to our newest #GalaxyNote9 troubleshooting article. This post answers some of the common problems we’ve encountered for Samsung’s latest flagship. We hope you’ll find the solutions helpful.

Problem #1: How to fix Galaxy Note9 “Network not available. Please try again later.” error

Network not available. Please try again later error. This error messages happened on my Galaxy Note 9 (previously happened on my Note 8 too). But i realized it’s happening when i’m connected to wifi connection. Still checking if happens on data connection. i got a friend on Note 9 also encountered this error last week. Before this she encountered phone hanged/lagged while using camera.  Have tried:

  • soft reset
  • switch network
  • turning on/off airplane mode
  • clear phone cache
  • replace new sim card
  • changing ‘APN protocol’ to IPv4 and monitoring now.

Will try reset network settings if problem still persists. Any idea root cause of this error message?

Solution: “Network not available. Please try again later” error or “Network not available, but please try again later,” whichever is showing on your device mostly occurs due to incorrect or corrupted network settings. At times, it can happen if there’s an issue with a SIM card, or if there’s an on-going carrier-side outage. Since the error shows up when you’re on wifi only, the most likely problem may be related to your device’s network settings.

Reset network settings

We suggest that you go ahead with the plan to reset its network settings. For reference, here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap General Management > Reset settings.
  3. Tap Reset network settings.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

Observe in safe mode

There’s also a chance that the issue may be app-related so if nothing will change after wiping the device’s network settings, you can also observe the phone for a few hours when it’s running on safe mode. When on this mode, try to replicate the problem by trying to do your routine that triggers the error. On safe mode, your Note9 will block all third party apps from running and will only allow preinstalled apps. So, if your phone works normally on safe mode and “Network not available. Please try again later” error or “Network not available, but please try again later” won’t show up at all, you can bet a third party app is involved. To notice any difference, make sure to allow the phone to run in safe mode continuously for at least 24 hours.

To boot your Note9 to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

If you’ve found out that the issue does not exist on safe mode, you want to identify the problematic app next. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Note9 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Manually select network

Some users in the past were able to fix  “Network not available. Please try again later” error or “Network not available, but please try again later” by manually selecting their network from a list. This may help even if the problem only occurs on wifi situations. It’s easy to do so follow the steps below if you haven’t given it a try yet.

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Tap Network operators.
  5. Tap Search networks.
  6. Wait for the device to scan for available networks.
  7. Select a network that you are NOT subscribed to.
  8. Once the device shows an error that you’re not a registered user in that network, return to Network operators menu.
  9. Then tap the correct network.this time.

Factory reset

Wiping your device may or may not help in this situation. However, if all the suggestions above won’t change anything, we highly recommend that you perform a factory reset. This should be the last software troubleshooting that you can try on your end before you want to contact your carrier (if phone came from them) or Samsung.

To factory reset your Note9:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
  2. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  3. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts > Backup and restore.
  4. Tap the following sliders to desired setting:
  5. Back up my data
  6. Automatic restore
  7. Tap the Back key (bottom right) until you reach the main Settings menu.
  8. Tap General Management > Reset > Factory data reset.
  9. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, then tap RESET > DELETE ALL.
  10. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your credentials.
  11. If prompted to verify your Samsung account, enter the password, then tap CONFIRM.
  12. Wait for the device to reset.

Get Samsung support

Although there’s only a sporadic report about this issue happening on the Note9 everywhere, it would be a great help for all users if you can report the trouble to Samsung. The more users report the same issue, the higher the chance that developers will notice it. At this time, there’s no official word from Samsung yet about this particular situation but that should not discourage you to bring it to their attention.

Problem #2: How to fix Galaxy Note9 wifi issue: no internet when using wifi

My data WIFI works but my phone WIFI doesn’t.  I have contacted Sprint, Samsung and Spectrum and they are all pointing their fingers at someone else problems.  I have asked to have Port 4440 TCP and 4500 UPD manually port forwarded and Spectrum said they did that but the phone WIFI still doesn’t work.  So, I am using my phone from a tower to get signal while I am paying for a router in my house. And my phone is a NOTE 9.

Solution: The problem probably lies on your router and not on your Galaxy Note9. To check, try to connect to another wifi like in your local Starbucks, library, or friend’s place. Keep in mind to use wifi and not mobile data, which you refer here as “data wifi.” If your Note9 can connect to a second wifi without problems, that’s a clear sign that there must be a router configuration issue blocking internet connection for your Note9. Just to be on the safe side, you can reset your Note9 network settings before connecting to a second wifi to return the default wifi configuration of the device. To reset your Note9 network settings, refer to the steps provided for Problem #1.

If your Note9 is only having trouble connecting to the internet when using your home wifi, youi must seek help from your internet service provider or ISP (Spectrum) on how to reset the router. If there’s someone who administers your home wifi other than you, tell that person to unblock your Note9 from the network, or simply reset the router to its default state.

Problem #3: How to fix Pokemon Go that won’t work when Galaxy Note9 is on mobile data

My Pokemon Go could not load on my Samsung Note 9. I tried reinstalling, giving it a lot of permissions and any other solutions on the net but still could not get it to work. It works on wifi.

 

My Pokemon GO won’t work on Mobile Data but only with WIFI. It’s also working via hotspot. Tried reinstalling but nothing change. It’s happening to both my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and 9 ! Both software are up to date as well. Please help.  Thanks.

Solution: There are many people on the web complaining about the same issue so it’s probably an app coding problem. We suggest that you contact the app’s developer so they can create a ticket for this problem, or update the one they currently have.

Change APN protocol to IPv6

Some users were able to successfully fix the bug by tweaking their device’s APN protocol. We don’t suggest that you do this as other apps or mobile services may not work properly or at all after doing so. If you want to give it a try though, follow the steps below to change APN protocol to IPv6:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Tap Access Point Names.
  5. Select the current APN.
  6. Look for APN Protocol and tap it.
  7. Select IPv6.

Even if changing APN protocol works, we still highly recommend that you contact the developer for a permanent fix. The app should work whether your device employ IPv4 or IPv6. That it is not happening is a sloppy job for them.

Problem #4: Galaxy Note9 “Failed sending messages” error

Hi guys and ladies..  Ever since the last update end of July I have been getting the transparent pop up in the middle of my screen “Failed sending messages (Error: General Error)” it’s on random times, not even sending a message. I have cleared cache partition And also done a factory restore. everything seems to work as it should, just get that at random times I can’t find anything or what apps causing the issue.  If anyone can assist would be awesome. 

Solution: It may be a bug in one of your apps. Try restarting your Note9 to safe mode for 24 hours and observe what happens. If the issue won’t occur on safe mode, our suspicion that a third party app is behind must be right. Refer to Problem #1 on how to boot the phone to safe mode and how to use the process of elimination to identify the culprit.

To save time, try to erase the apps that you have installed before the problem started. If you are using a third party messaging app, that can be the cause too. Uninstall it and see what happens. Otherwise, go through the safe mode course of action to find the root cause.
