There’s a number of reasons for slow wifi connection on LG G7 ThinQ. Learn how to troubleshoot the problem below.

Verify wifi network speed is normal

Before you perform any troubleshooting on your device, we want to remind you that this problem can be caused by the router as much as your device. So, your first task is to check if there’s a problem with the wifi network itself. Using another wireless device, check the speed of your wifi by running a speed test. If you have another phone, just install any speed test app or open any speed test site and verify the connection speed. If wifi connection speed is slow on all devices, that means there’s no problem with your LG G7 ThinQ. In this situation, you must troubleshoot your router or your wifi network. If you don’t know how to do that, get support from your Internet Service Provider. However, if wifi connection speed is okay on other devices but is slow in your LG G7 ThinQ, then you need to continue the troubleshooting steps below.

Restart your LG G7 ThinQ

The first thing that you want to do on your LG G7 ThinQ is to restart it. Some networking bugs go away by simply refreshing the system.

Power cycle network equipment

With your LG G7 ThinQ now restarted, you also want to restart your networking equipment. They, like your phone, can benefit from a refreshed system too. Make sure to unplug your modem and router from the wall outlet for at least 30 seconds before turning them back on.

Forget wifi networks

Sometimes, deleting an old wifi profile or network helps in fixing wifi troubles. To remove a wifi network from your LG G7 ThinQ:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Network & internet.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi.
  4. Tap the connected Wi-Fi network.
  5. Note If unavailable, ensure the Wi-Fi is turned on Switch on icon (upper-right).
  6. Tap FORGET.

After hitting the forget button, be sure to restart the phone before reconnecting to your wifi again.

Toggle Smart Network Switch on and off

Some users find turning off Smart Network Switch improves wifi connection speed. Smart Network Switch is a feature that automatically turns on mobile data when wifi is out of range or non-existent. At times, this might not work as expected. Turning it off can discontinue the bug that might be creating a conflict with your wifi.

To turn off Smart Network Switch:

  1. Turn on mobile data.
  2. Open Settings app.
  3. Tap Wireless.
  4. Untick the box beside next to Smart Network Switch.

Clear cache partition

Android uses a special cache called system cache to load apps quickly and do certain tasks efficiently. Sometimes, the system cache gets corrupted. To ensure that the phone has fresh system cache, you can clear the cache partition with these steps:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button.
  3. Release both buttons when the System Recovery screen appears.
  4. Use the volume buttons to navigate to Wipe Cache.
  5. Select the Power button to confirm Wipe Cache action.

Clear browser app cache and data

If you’re only having slow connection issue when using a web browser and the rest of the apps work normally on wifi, the most likely issue lies on the browser itself. Try clearing its cache first to see what happens. If nothing works after that, clear the cached data.

How to clear an app cache

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap App info.
  4. Tap the appropriate app.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear cache. This option may not be available for some apps. If there’s no option for you to clear a browser cache, go ahead and clear its data instead.

How to clear an app data

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap App info.
  4. Tap the appropriate app.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear data.

Reset network settings

Another important troubleshooting step that you can do in this case is to ensure that you reset all network settings on your device. Doing so will erase cellular and wifi network settings. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Tap Restart & reset.
  4. Tap Network settings reset.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  6. Tap Reset Settings.

Check wifi connection speed on safe mode

It’s possible that one of the downloaded apps may be hogging all the broadband speed in your phone for whatever reason. To see if that’s the case, you can restart to safe mode.

  1. Ensure the device is powered off.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button until the System recovery screen displays then release both buttons.
  3. Select Safe mode. You can use the Volume buttons to highlight the option and the Power button to select.
  4. The device starts up with ‘Safe mode’ displayed in the lower-left.  This may take up to 1 minute to complete.
  5. Check your wifi connection speed.

If wifi connection speed improves on safe mode and appears to be working normally, you can bet a downloaded app is to blame. To identify which of your apps is causing the trouble, you should boot the phone back to safe mode and follow these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your LG G7 ThinQ is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Factory reset

Wiping your phone and returning its software settings to their defaults might look extreme but it’s the last troubleshooting step that you can do in this case.

To factory reset:
