How To Fix Samsung Galaxy J6 Screen Has Vertical Lines
Problem: About a week ago, my battery ran out so I charged it. When I turned my phone back on the display was only colored vertical lines. I left it charging for a while. When I turned it on the next day, it had the lines again, so I turned off the screen and turned it back on and it was fine…no more problems. Yesterday, when I turned on my screen to use my phone, I had the lines again. Now I don’t even have the lines, it only slightly lightens up, but now picture. Nothing has happened to it recently, so I don’t know what the cause is. Although I did download a new app yesterday. Can my phone be saved?
Solution: In most cases where the display of the phone is not working properly ( such as having vertical lines) this is usually caused by a faulty hardware component ( possibly the display assembly) which can only be fixed at a service center. You can however perform the troubleshooting steps listed below which are intended to check if this issue is caused by a software glitch.
Fully Charge the J6
The first thing you will want to do in this case is to make sure that the battery of the phone has sufficient charge. Connect the phone to its wall charger and let it fully charge. You will know when the phone is already fully charged if the LED indicator becomes solid green.
Start the J6 in Safe Mode
Try to check if an app you installed in the phone is causing the problem by starting the device in Safe Mode. When the phone is started in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run making it easy to check if a third party app is the culprit.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Power key for one or two seconds to turn on the device.
- When the Samsung logo displays, press and hold the Volume down key until the lock screen displays.
If the display works in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Factory Reset The J6 In Recovery Mode
If the display issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then the best thing to do right now is to perform a factory reset in recovery mode. Take note that this will erase your phone data. Also, the screen does not work in recovery mode then you won’t be able to do a factory reset.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the phone.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
