How To Fix Samsung Galaxy A9 Apps Keep Stopping Unexpectedly
Problem: I have a Samsung A9 original and frequently updated operating system, purchased recently. Lately lots of apps have been stopping unexpectedly, and I have to keep restarting them to use them. The worst is my texting app, and it can take more than a dozen tries to send just a simple text. But other apps have been quitting also. Then my screen started going black and not turning back on, at “screen saver” time-outs and when the keyboard case was closed, or if I turned off the screen by quickly pressing the power button. At first, pressing the power off button, closing the keyboard case and reopening it would turn the screen back on. Then it progressed to having to open/close the case several times. Now I cannot get the screen to turn on at all. The texting app programmers suggested that the phone is having a memory issue, thus causing the frequent crashing of the apps, even tho the memory monitors indicate a lot memory available. If the phone is having memory issues, could that also be causing the black screen? or do you think it is solely a hardware issue? And if a hardware issue, is it something I could do at home, or would a technician need to fix it?
Solution: Before troubleshooting this problem you should first check if the phone is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it in your device.
Start the phone in Safe Mode
The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to check if the problem is caused by an app you downloaded. The best way to do this is to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.
- Turn the phone Off
- Press and hold “Power”
- At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down”
- After the phone finishes rebooting, release the keys. A “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
If you don’t experience the issue while the phone is running on this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Clear the cache and data of the texting app
Since you mentioned that the problem usually occurs on the texting app then you should try clearing the cache and data of this app. This will remove the temporary data and reset the app to its default settings.
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “Apps’ and select the desired app
- Tap “Storage” > “Clear cache”
- Tap “OK”
- If clearing the app cache didn’t solve the issues, tap “Clear data”
Wipe the cache partition of the phone
The apps in your phone will usually store cached data in a special partition of the phone. This cached data allows the app to perform better however there are instances when the saved data can become corrupted which can cause issues on the device. To eliminate this factor you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone.
- Turn the phone Off if necessary
- Press and hold “Power” “Volume down” and “Home”/”Bixby” at the same time
- At the Android screen, release the buttons and wait for access to Android Recovery
- Press “Volume down” to navigate the menu to highlight “Wipe cache partition”
- Press “Power” to select the highlight
- Finally, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”
Perform a factory reset
One lats troubleshooting step that you should consider doing is a factory reset. This reverts your phone to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this step as it will be deleted in the process.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
