The Roku device is one of the best streaming players that can play up to 4K Ultra HD content at a budget friendly price. You can enjoy watching Netflix, YouTube, or an other online streaming content by simply plugging this device to your TV. Although using this device is quite easy to use there are instances when the Roku controller is not working as intended. This is what we will be addressing today.
How To Fix Roku Controller Not Working
Replace the batteries
The roku controller will only work is its batteries are fully charged. In case the battery does not have power anymore then you won’t be able to use this controller. Try replacing the battery (could either be AA or AAA) then check if the controller will now work.
Restart the player and remote
Sometimes certain software glitches can cause the remote and player to freeze. To check if this is what’s happening right now you will need to Open the compartment at the back of the remote and remove the batteries. You should also disconnect the power cable from the Roku device, wait five seconds, and plug it back in.
Re-pair the remote
Sometimes the remote will not work because it has not been paired to the player. If this is the case then you will need to pair this again by following the steps listed below.
- Remove the batteries from the remote
- Disconnect the power cable from the Roku then wait five seconds
- Plug the plug cable back into the device then wait for the home screen to appear
- Put the batteries back into the remote.
- Press and hold the pairing button located in the battery compartment for three seconds, or until the pairing light on the remote starts to flash.
- Wait 30 seconds for the remote to establish a connection with your Roku device
- The pairing dialog will appear on your TV screen.
Try downloading the remote app on your phone
If the controller still doesn’t work then try getting the app from either the App Store or the Google Play Store. This will allow you to use your phone as a controller.
Get a new Roku controller
In case the app you downloaded to your phone works then the problem could be caused by a faulty Roku controller. The best thing to do right now is to get a replacement controller. You can buy one from the company’s website with prices starting at $15.
