How To Fix LG G7 ThinQ Microphone Not Working
Problem: Everytime I go into a game such as pubg or rules of survival and I turn on the microphone my teammates can hear what I say but I can’t, but if turn it off I’m able to hear what they say but obviously I can’t talk on the mic because it’s off. Another issue that I have is with the earbuds, when I plug them in everything sounds perfect, but again the mic doesn’t work unless I press the earbuds in the headphone jack and if I let go the mic stops again. I have tried plugging them in different ways but stills the same.
Solution: Before troubleshooting this problem it’s best to make sure that your phone is running on the the latest software version first. If an update is available then you should download and install it first.
From the way you described the problem this already sounds like it is caused by a faulty hardware component. The fact that you have to push in the earbuds in the headphone jack in order for the microphone to work means that your phone might already have a faulty headphone jack. There are however other factors that can cause this problem such as a software glitch which we will try to rule out first.

Clean the 3.5mm headphone jack
There are instances when dirt or debris can become stuck in the headphone jack of the phone which can cause audio problems. Make sure that the headphone jack is free from any particles by cleaning it using a can of compressed air.
Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode
There are cases when an app you downloaded can cause issues with the way the microphone works. To check if this is what’s causing the problem you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.
- Make sure the phone is powered off.
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button until the System recovery screen displays then release both buttons.
- Select Safe mode by using the Volume buttons to highlight the option and the Power button to select.
- The device starts up with ‘Safe mode’ displayed in the lower-left.
In case the problem does not occur in this mode then it’s most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- From a Home screen go to Settings – Apps & notification – App info.
- Select the appropriate app.
- Tap uninstall.
Backup your phone data then do a factory reset
In case the microphone still does not work even in Safe Mode then you should proceed with a factory reset. This will allow you to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
- From the Home screen, Settings.
- Tap the ‘General’ tab.
- Tap Restart & reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- If desired, tap the Erase SD card checkbox.
- Tap RESET PHONE > Delete all > RESET
You can also do a factory reset from the recovery mode.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
- When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
- When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
- Press the Power button to reset the device.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already. The headphone jack of the phone might need to be replaced. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
