How to fix LG G7 ThinQ messaging app won’t open issue

Problem: LG G7 ThinQ messaging app won’t open

Can’t open messaging app. If I receive a text it’s showing there is a text to be read but on opening eventually it gives a message that says “messaging keeps stopping close the app” thereby refusing me to read the messages. At one point it was talking of not having enough space and I deleted some unnecessary apps to fix the problem but nothing has been resolved. I restarted the phone several times to no avail. What should I do without losing important information contained therein. Please help.

Solution: Fixing an issue like this requires doing a number of troubleshooting steps to identify the source of the bug. Make sure to follow the suggestions below.

Create backup

Before you do any troubleshooting, make sure that you create a backup of your text messages if you don’t want to lose them. To create backup of your text messages on LG G7 ThinQ, you can use LG Mobile Switch. LG Mobile Switch is LG’s own app specifically designed to help users move text messages, and other media seamlessly between compatible devices. LG Mobile Switch must be installed on both devices first before file or data transfer is possible.

Force restart

The first troubleshooting step to do in this case is to refresh the system. Try to simulate battery removal. To do that, simply press and hold the Power button and Volume Down until the device powers off, approximately 8 seconds, then release.

Clear messaging app cache

One of the two ways to deal with the app in question is to clear its cache. Sometimes, app caches get corrupted for some reason, which can then result to problems. Try to clear the cache of your messaging app and see what happens.

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap App info.
  4. Tap the appropriate app.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear cache.
  7. Restart the phone and check for the problem.

Delete old conversation threads

If the messaging app remains a problem at this time, the next good thing to do is to ensure that there’s enough available storage space for the app to operate. Sometimes, a full inbox can interfere with an app’s ability to work normally, resulting to erratic behavior. Try to delete old conversation threads, especially those that contain photos, videos, and other media. Such threads can eat up significant amount of storage so they’re better gone from your inbox.

Clear messaging app data

Deleting messaging app data may be necessary if nothing changes after making room in your messaging app’s inbox. To do it:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap App info.
  4. Tap the appropriate app.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear data.
  7. Restart the phone and check for the problem.

Observe in safe mode

One of the downloaded apps may be to blame. To check, run your device to safe mode with these steps:

  1. With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
  2. In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
  3. When prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
  4. After your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Uninstall apps that are causing a problem.

Allow your phone to run for at least 24 hours and see if moisture detected error returns. If it doesn’t that means a bad application may be the culprit. To identify which of your apps is causing the trouble, you should boot the phone back to safe mode and follow these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your LG G7 ThinQ is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Reset network settings

Another important troubleshooting step that you can do in this case is to ensure that you reset all network settings on your device. Doing so will erase cellular and wifi network settings. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Tap Restart & reset.
  4. Tap Network settings reset.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  6. Tap Reset Settings.

Factory reset

This is a drastic solution for this case but you may need to do it should nothing work after exhausting all troubleshooting steps.

To factory reset your LG G7 ThinQ:

  1. Create a backup of your files.
  2. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  3. Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  4. Tap Restart & reset.
  5. Tap Factory data reset.
  6. If desired, tap the Erase SD card checkbox.
  7. Tap RESET PHONE.
  8. Tap Delete all.
  9. Tap RESET
