Galaxy S8 fast charging won’t work using non-Samsung accessories

A lot of people usually encounter fast charging issues on their Galaxy S8 when using third party cables and adapter. To find out what to do in this situation, follow our suggestions below.

Problem: Galaxy S8 fast charging won’t work using non-Samsung accessories

Has there been any update on the fast charging issue with the S8?  I bought a brand new Anker USB A ->USB C cable, one of the fast charging cables, and a Anker PowerIQ charger with Qualcom Fastcharge 3.0.  Fast charge is enabled, it charges fast but does not display the fast charge message. Also, I tried to wipe the cache as described, and I do not have that option.   I also get the wet charging port message when the battery is allowed to run to 100% dead. If I plug it in too charge, it will simply say it is wet right away, when it is not wet.  I have to boot to the menu screen, let it sit at the boot menu for 30 minutes or so, then turn it on to let it finish charging, which it has done that since day one.

Solution: There’s no fast charging issue for all Galaxy S8 devices. Some S8 users did report trouble with their phone’s fast charging capability but they are either due to a bad charging accessory or charging port. Some were caused by a unknown software bugs but were later fixed by factory reset.

If you want to identify where the issue is coming from, you need to do some troubleshooting.

Use official Samsung accessories

While there are a lot of third party cables and adapters that can work with your Galaxy S8, your device is actually tested to work with official accessories from Samsung only. If your device won’t fast charge using a third party cable and adapter, there’s a chance that the parameters of those accessories are not the ones your device requires. To check, get a known working Galaxy S8 charging cable and adapter and use them to charge your phone. If they’re not readily available, visit your local Samsung store and charge your phone using their official accessories.

Refresh the system cache

Some forms of charging issues are caused by a bad system cache. To ensure that your phone system cache is in good shape, try to delete the current cache so the system will be forced to build a new one. Here’s how:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe cache partition”
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Reset app preferences

Another way of ensuring that all system apps are working as expected is to reset app preferences. This troubleshooting step will enable previously disabled default apps. Other items that will be reset includes:

  • Notification restrictions for apps
  • Disabled apps
  • Background data restrictions for apps
  • Permission restrictions.

To reset app preferences:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap More settings (three-dot) icon at the upper right.
  4. Tap Reset app preferences.

Reset all settings

Short of doing a factory reset, resetting all settings on your phone may help. If you are the type who likes to tweak settings on your phone a lot, there’s a chance that somewhere along the way, an important setting may had been changed. To return all settings to their defaults without wiping the entire phone, you can reset all settings. Here’s how:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset settings.
  3. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  6. The device will restart to perform the reset of settings.

Recalibrate the battery

In many power- or boot-related cases, the problem is caused by a poorly calibrated operating system and battery. To ensure that Android and the battery work normally, be sure to calibrate both of them. If you haven’t tried doing it before, follow these steps:

  1. Drain the battery completely. This means using your device until it powers down by its own and the battery level reads 0%.
  2. Charge the phone until it reaches 100%. Be sure to use original charging equipment for your device and let it charge up completely. Do not unplug your device for at least two more hours and also don’t use it while charging.
  3. After the elapsed time, unplug your device.
  4. Restart the phone.
  5. Use your phone until it completely runs out of power again.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5.

Factory reset

Another good troubleshooting step that you can try in this situation is factory reset. This will restore all software settings back to their defaults. If a bug has developed after installing an update, app, or software update, there’s a chance factory reset may be able to fix the problem. If you haven’t tried doing a factory reset in your S8 before, follow these steps:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  3. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts.
  4. Tap Backup and restore.
  5. If desired, tap Back up my data to move the slider to ON or OFF.
  6. If desired, tap Restore to move the slider to ON or OFF.
  7. Tap the back button to the Settings menu and tap General Management > Reset > Factory data reset.
  8. Tap Reset device.
  9. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your credentials.
  10. Tap Continue.
  11. Tap Delete all.
