Samsung Galaxy S6 Unfortunately Messages Has Stopped Issue & Other Related Problems

S6 Unfortunately Messages Has Stopped

Problem: After I updated my device I have been having issues with my stock messaging app. One issue is when I try to send a message in a new conversation, the app will crash telling me “unfortunately messages has stopped”. Another issue is group messaging and pictures. The app won’t download messages in a group conversation or pictures. It seems to have issues with all mms. It also won’t sort messages into a group conversation. I receive messages as if it were from the individual. All I get is a click to download button, and then a failure to download error when I do so. What could be the problem?

Solution: For the messages has stopped error you should try to clear the cache and data of the messaging app. If this doesn’t work try to check if an app you downloaded is causing this issue by starting the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone is in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the problem doesn’t occur in this mode then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

Regarding the issue with the picture messages try to check if it still occurs after the reset. If it does then some of the things that you need to check are listed below.

  • Make sure your phone is using the correct APN settings
  • Make sure you have an active mobile data subscription and that the mobile data is switched on.

S6 Not Receiving Text Messages

Problem: Had upgrade to Marshmallow. Then, and only then, was texting all messed up. Had it fixed (see #3 below.) Then needed another reflash because I couldn’t text some people. Kept getting the following msg: ‘unfortunately, messenger has stopped.’ Then I had an upgrade and now that issue is back, but also too, I am not receiving texts. I know this because I have Mightytext web app. It copies messages to my computer so I can see and do texting from my computer. I see the messages coming on MT, but they are not on my phone. These people are the ones I am unable to text from my phone. Here is what I have done. Nothing has helped. 1) restarted phone 2) cleared caches 3) deleted hx of text threads 4) went to Samsung area at Best Buy store for reflash. Seemed ok until another update. Waiting for their system update so I can reflash. 5) wiped cache partition 6) chatted, then called, Samsung–they want my phone for up to 11 days to check my hardware. Funny how this is a known problem since Marshmallow. Too many people are having this issue for me to think it’s a hardware issue. Can’t be without my phone. 7) started in safe mode, texted those I was not able. Still unable; so this means my apps are not causing the issue. This is why Samsung thinks it’s a hardware issue. (I still don’t believe it.) 8) not interested in phone reset for 3 reasons: a) I’ve seen where people have done so and it did not help b) it’s too time consuming to setup everything again, personalize things,etc; especially when this fix is not guaranteed c) I will again get Marshmallow upgrade! What other issues would I then have? I see battery drain and hot phones are the other big ones; not interested in those. Do you have any other ideas? I appreciate your time!

Solution: Right now the only other idea that comes into mind is to try using another SIM in your phone then check if the issue still occurs. You should also consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Instead, try to check first if the issue still occurs.

S6 No Text Notifications

Problem: After the last update of my phone, I get no notification of incoming text messages if the message are currently open. Furthermore, I have my phone set to receive notifications if the text message is received. However, after the last update this does not work either anymore even though the setting is on. Is there anything that I can do? I already did a soft restart and the number for the notification center (+12063130004) I found online matches the settings in the phone.  Thank you very much for your help!

Solution: Several other phone owners who got the update are also having this very same issue. As per Samsung’s advice this is a feature of the update which can’t be configured. Since the conversation thread is open then chances are you are looking at it thus the notification has been disabled.

You might want to try checking for a new update for your phone which might change this notification issue. Another option that you can consider is to download a third party messaging app which is not affected by this issue.

S6 Not Getting Long Text Messages

Problem: Hello, I have a Galaxy S6 that is about a year old.  I can send and receive texts but some of the texts from one of my contacts do not always get to me.  It seems to be longer texts that have problems, anything sometimes as short as 4 or more lines of text.  I get longer texts consistently from other contacts and occasionally will receive the longer texts from this one contact in question using a 3 month old Galaxy Note 5.  Is this more likely a problem with my device or that one contact’s device?

Solution: If you are not getting long text messages from a particular contact then this might be caused by the way they are sending the text message. If the long message has been converted to MMS then make sure that your phone is able to receive an MMS. To do this your phone should have the correct APN settings and it should also have an active mobile data subscription. Another possible reason why you might not be receiving a long text message from one contact is that the message might be converted to an iMessage if they are using an iPhone.

S6 Delayed Text Messages

Problem: Delayed text messages and occasionally I cannot send messages. If I open the message+ app it can be either black or just refreshing the entire time. Phone occasionally restarts itself and is overheating a lot.

Solution:  Since your phone is experiencing multiple issue right now I recommend you do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
