Galaxy S6 Edge has difficulty receiving group and picture messages (Verizon)

Problem: Not sure if the version I have provided is correct.  I’m not sure where to find that info. First off thanks for the service you provide.

Hopefully you can help me out. I have a Galaxy 6 Edge.  I currently have a hard time receiving group texts or picture texts.  I did not have this problem when I first got the phone, however it has been harder and harder to receive them.  I even hit the download button on the texts and I no longer can even get them that way.  I currently have my data on and usually in places where I have full service. Hopefully you can help me out. Thanks. — Joe

Troubleshooting: Hey Joe. Kindly verify if you can connect to the internet using mobile data. If you can, then it’s more likely a service issue, unless, your service provider changed its APN configuration for MMS.

For the benefit of those who don’t know yet, upon activation or after the phone is provisioned, there are two APN settings that need to be synced with the provider’s network–internet and MMS.

Sometimes, service providers change the configuration and usually, subscribers’ phones will be updated automatically or they’ll be notified of the new setting. Therefore, you need to check with your service provider if it changed the settings and at the same time, troubleshoot with the representative so that the problem will be given attention. If you’re still having a hard time sending or receiving MMS after the troubleshooting, then your phone may be re-provisioned and that’s the end of the problem.

Of course, you also need to check that it’s not just a coverage issue. Poor signal reception will always lead to poor or no service.

Galaxy S6 Edge showing “Message not sent” error (T-Mobile)

Problem: I’ve been trying to send texts like I always  do to various numbers but I keep getting the “Message not sent” error.

This has never happened before and it looks like a quick fix is for me to restart my phone. However, this problem keeps happening and I have to restart my phone. Can you help? — Julio

Troubleshooting: Try sending the message to your own number to see if it goes through and you can receive it because if it doesn’t leave your phone, it must be something to do with the message center number. However, if you’re still getting the same error message (Message not sent) but able to receive the message, the problem is with the messaging app.

I encountered an issue like this before. The phone shows “Message not sent” but was able to receive the message I sent to my own number. In this case, it means that you still have a service but the app you’re using may be acting up.

If you are using a third-party messaging app, uninstall it and then try sending another message to yourself using the stock messaging app. If the problem persists, clear the cache and data of the app and that should do it. However, if all else failed, then you need to perform a master reset.

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  7. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Lastly, if the error shows and you weren’t able to receive the message and basing on your statement that you need to restart the phone for it to be able to perform this very simple task, the problem can either be with the network itself or with the phone’s hardware that’s failing. Either way, you need to call your service provider and troubleshoot with its technician. If the problem remains, then your provider is obliged to give you a new phone as a replacement.

Unlocked Galaxy S6 Edge can’t send / receive picture messages

Problem: I have an  unlocked Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.  The carrier is Straight Talk.  I am unable to send or receive picture texts.  I can send one to myself from the phone, but I can’t send or receive from others.  I have checked with Straight Talk and there are no errors in their network.  Please help me!  Thank you!

Troubleshooting: It has something to do with the APN settings in your phone. Your phone is a Verizon variant but you are now using the services Straight Talk offers, so basically, your phone was setup to work seamlessly with Verizon network but not with ST.

Kindly call Straight Talk, ask for the APN to be sent over your phone and set it up. If you still can’t send or receive MMS after that, call ST again and have the phone or your number re-provisioned.

Galaxy S6 Edge photo messages aren’t received

Problem: When I send texts, the text appears to be sent on my end but the recipient never received them. This happens frequently with photos. Most recently, it has happened when on wi-fi network and in group messaging. It does not appear to be limited to just one person, as multiple people have failed to receive my texts. I have the stock messaging app that came with the phone. Please let me know if using a third party app like textra would eliminate this problem.

Troubleshooting: Whatever messaging app you use, the phone still needs its mobile data turned on to be able to transmit and receive picture messages or MMS and no, Wi-Fi can’t help either. If mobile data has already been enabled and you’re still having this problem, then check the APN and see if it conforms with your provider’s APN. If so, then you now need to call your provider for help.

Galaxy S6 Edge can’t attach picture to text after an update

Problem: I received an update notice, a few days later I noticed that when I would try to attach a picture to a text, it would not allow me to. It gives an option to attach “a paperclip”, after it just says send, I cannot write a text, so I end up sending 2 text, one with pic and another with text. I tried adding a text then picture , and it still sends the picture separately. I tried clearing the cache as instructed on a Samsung  troubleshooting site and to no avail!! Please give me some guidance.

Answer: You’re just one of the many owners who complained about this specific issue, sadly though, there’s not much we can do about it because apparently, it’s a bug in the firmware and only updates can fix it. So, we need to wait when Samsung or your provider will roll out a new one.

Galaxy S6 Edge converts texts to MMS

Problem: Hey, I just got a new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge unexpectedly, I’m unable to send text messages because my mobile automatically converts long text into multimedia messages which I don’t want to happen. I want to my text messages to be sent as text as per my recipient’s convenience. Kindly help me!

Troubleshooting: We have our own habits in sending text messages. Some send long messages, others with smileys and special characters, many attach pictures, and circles of friends often send group messages. Well, all these things will convert a text message into an MMS. Prevent all these so that your SMS will remain as is.

Galaxy S6 Edge text messages contain “strange” characters

Problem: I got this phone on 6/11/15.  When I text one of my friends, she tells me my texts are coming through as a foreign language w/strange characters?  I can’t even type the characters she is showing me as my texts are coming over to her.  The weird thing is she has the exact same phone as I do and she is the only one this happens with.  It’s SO frustrating when the person you’re texting cannot understand what you’re trying to say because the phone is changing what I type.  Why does this happen and how can I stop it?

Also it seems like it’s “clogged” when I text, it stalls (stops texting), then the characters I type “pop out” (become larger on the screen, then go back to the keyboard), like the phone is in slow motion?  Then it catches up to what I’ve typed and inevitably I have to retype my text.

I called my carrier, Verizon, about this and they just said I need to power down the phone more so it can reset.  I did that and still having these same problems – ridiculous, considering the phone is only 3 months old?!

Answer: If your friend is the only one that gets those “strange” characters, then it’s clear that the problem with his/her phone not yours. I don’t know the phone is but she/he needs to change the encoding.

The other problem you have is most likely a keyboard lag. I don’t know what keyboard you use but try clearing the cache and data. If the problem remains, perform a master reset.
