Note 5 doesn’t charge when it’s on, charges slowly when turned off

Problem: My phone doesn’t charge with power on. With power off it shows slowly coming on and off a battery icon with a short vibration and does charge  the battery. The icon keeps showing up even when the battery is fully charged.

Troubleshooting: Here are the possibilities:

  • Charger is defective
  • USB port is loose
  • Utility port issue

If the power adapter or the charger itself is the issue, buying a new one is your best bet. To know if it’s really the one that has a problem, try using a different charger. If it works, then our suspicion is confirmed.

When plugged in, try to hold on the cable and see if there’s a certain direction that you could make the device charge continuously. If the problem still persists and if the cable fits right in to the utility port, then the problem might be the port itself. In this case, you need a technician to check it for you.

Note 5 fast charging feature doesn’t work all the time

Problem: Sometimes when the phone is plugged in, it does not recognize fast charger. Occasionally I have to unplug and replug the phone in for fast charging to be recognized. Regardless of battery percentage, if fast charging is recognized, the battery charges faster.

Troubleshooting: When it comes to fast charging capability of the Note 5, there’s not much we can do about it because there’s no ON/OFF switch for this feature. There’s no problem here. When the phone doesn’t fast-charge, just make sure the screen is off and re-plug it. That should do it.

Related Problem: Why do I constantly have to plug and unplug my note 5 several times to get fast charge to start? It is the original wall charger, and no matter what plug I use, I have to plug and unplug the cord several times for it to say fast charge. Otherwise it just says cable charge.

Related Problem: When I connect my Note 5 to charge, it doesn’t always fast charge. I sometimes have to connect and reconnect 3 or more times for the fast charging to work. I’m using the original Samsung charger that came with my new phone about 6 months ago. Please help I feel like I’m doing more harm to my phone with connecting and reconnecting so many times. Thank you!

Note 5 charges only when turned off

Problem: Got my phone about three weeks ago. It has been great to me until just now. My phone won’t charge on any power source. I’ve tried changing cords and blocks. It will start and stop charging only if the phone is off. If the phone is on it won’t charge at all. Please help asap!

Troubleshooting: At least, it charges. That’s a relief because we know that it’s not a hardware issue. More often, if this problem occurs, it means that there’s a ton of apps and services running in the background that use the battery. Close them and it should start charging normally again. The problem is, we don’t know for sure what those apps are and disabling them one by one will take a lot of your time. So, you have two options here; you can either boot your phone in safe mode if you charge it or you can reset it now and install necessary apps.

Booting in safe mode will temporarily disable all third-party apps and if our suspicion that the issue was caused by tons of apps running in the background was true, then the Note 5 should charge fine when in safe mode.

Resetting it, however, will delete all third-party apps and services and the device should charge properly after that. You may then install necessary apps or those that you use more often to prevent having to encounter the same problem.

Note 5 screen went black after falling on the ground

Problem: It fell down from my lap to the ground now the screen is black the notification light is blue and it make a sound as it try to start but want start. Just keeps on making the sound. I tried to use the power and up volume button and low volume but it will not restart. The notification light is always on.

Suggestion: Apparently, the phone suffered a physical damage affecting the display that’s why the screen remains black even if it’s obvious the phone is on. Try pressing and holding the Volume Down and Power buttons for 20 seconds. If the screen remains black, then it’s time you consult with a technician and have it fixed or at least, checked.

Related Problem: I kept my note 5 as usual and when I see my note 5 to make a call, I found that display was showing nothing and dead except a blue LED was blinking. I have been trying to power off or on but nothing. Please help me to resolve as soon as possible.

Email syncs continuously in the Note 5

Problem: My email syncs continuously therefore the battery is dead in 2 or 3 hours so I have to go to email settings and uncheck sync then once a day turn it on to update. I didn’t use to have this problem. It’s a pain. The sync circle on the email page just continues to rotate.

Solution: Try changing the sync schedule for that account to see if that makes a difference. If not, then it’s you tried setting up your email account again. That should work.

Note 5 screen becomes unresponsive several times a day

Problem: Hi. Multiple times a day my Note 5’s screen becomes non responsive. It’ll happen only after the phone screen is off. It’ll take between 1 and 3 home button cycle off/on for it to become responsive again.  Happens about 5 times a day on average. Note 5 with us cellular, thanks for any advice.

Solution: Something triggers it and more often than not, it’s a rogue app or your phone’s performance is really poor. You can take the entire day looking for the culprit but there’s one way to make it easier–master reset. All you have to do is backup all your data and reset your phone. The issues will be fixed after that.
