Missing Super Slow-Mo feature after installing update for Galaxy S8 Plus

Hello Samsung Galaxy users! This post will feature some issues for the #GalaxyS8 and #GalaxyS8Plus. We understand that many S8 users have issues one way or another on their device so hopefully you’ll find this post helpful. Problem #1: Missing Super Slow-Mo feature after installing update for Galaxy S8 Plus

Hi. I have a Galaxy S8 plus that is a DUOS and it says that it is from the UAE. the model number is SM-G955FD.  The serial Number is RF8K4242N0K. The software information tab states that it is the Kernel version and that it is the Samsung Experience Version is 9.0 and the Android Version is 8.0.0.

I live in Belize and got the phone from the telephone company here. My issue is that I get Samsung software updates and when I installed the most recent on 1 October 2018 (for AR Emojis and Super Slow Motion), I realize that this and all other updates may never have been enabled. I saw from one of your posts, instructions for clearing the caches as this may be a firmware issue. I tried going to Samsung support UAE on more than one occasion and I have been met with silence.  Is it possible for you to tell me what has happened and can you confirm if this is also a firmware issue for me and guide me on how to override this and start seeing my updates enabled and functioning?

I will greatly appreciate this. 

Solution: At this time, almost all Galaxy S8 devices around the worlds should have already received the September update which should include the Samsung exclusive perks of Super Slow-Mo and AR Emojis. If you did install an update but Super Slow-Mo is nowhere to be found, then you must be mistaken. Once the right update has been installed, your should have Super Slow-Mo in your Camera app. To check:

  1. Open Camera app.
  2. Swipe left.
  3. Tap on Super Slow-mo.

If there’s no Super Slow-mo at all, then you must wait for the next update, which will most likely include the missing feature.

If you can’t wait for the normal update, you can try to manually install the update via Odin. The way to do this is called flashing but it’s not for the faint of heart. Flashing can potentially brick your phone for good if not done correctly. If you want to take the risks though,use Google to find a good flashing guide for your particular phone model.

Problem #2: How to fix Galaxy S8 calling issue: gets redirected to Verizon Financial when making a call

When I try to make a call I get redirected to verizon financial. However incoming calls work just fine and so does my texting and data. I talked to 8 different verizon agents and they have no clue. Everything is paid and up to date on the account and everything from what they can see… I looked up this problem about there possibly being disable something in the phone call app settings it was 3 letters and started with D??? But I dont even have that in my setting so I don’t know what to do at this point.

Solution: There are many variables in this case that we have no information about so you should continue troubleshooting with your network operator to figure out the cause. We don’t think there’s an issue at all with your device but you can try to return the Phone app you’re using to its defaults by clearing its data. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap your app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
  8. Restart your S8 and check for the problem.

If clearing the Phone app’s data won’t help, you can then reset app preferences with these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Reset app preferences.
  5. Restart your S8 and check for the problem.

As your last device troubleshooting, you can wipe the phone and return all its software to its defaults. If the bug lies on the firmware, this may help.

  1. Create a backup of your data.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Remember, you are an end user and there’s only so much that you can do. If calling service continues to become erratic, it now falls on the shoulder of your network operator to figure out the reason behind it. There’s no other party that can help you better.

Problem #3: What to do if Galaxy S8 Plus screen stopped working after accidental drop

Hi. I’ve been using my Samsung S8 Plus from at least 10 months. The phone fell off and the screen broke although it was working fine even with the broken glass. However once I was using my phone just and all of a sudden it started going crazy and touching by its own. After some hard time trying to figure out what’s going on and why its touching all alone, the top part of my screen stopped responding to any if touching actions. I was ok with it and I didn’t have the time to go ask for help because I’m a medical student and time is not in my favor. Anyhow after quite some time the dead area increased to one third of the screen is dead now. I don’t know what seem to be the problem. Despite my glass got broken it worked just fine, although when the dead zone occurred i didn’t drop my phone nor spelling water on it. Thanks ahead!

Solution: It’s clear you have a bad screen issue. Dropping an electronic device can sometimes result to both immediate malfunction or long-term performance issues. While the phone may have worked “normally” right after the drop, the screen assembly must have received enough damage to allow it to continue working for some time. Your phone no longer recognizing your touches is a clear indicator of a failed digitizer. Since there’s no software trick that you can do to bring it back to life, the least that you can do right now is to contact Samsung. They’ll most likely send it to their service center for repair. If you’re lucky and the damage only lies on the screen, replacing the screen assembly should be a relatively easy fix. The worst case scenario is if there are other components in the motherboard. In this case, you’ll most likely end up with motherboard replacement, which is very expensive and impractical as it costs several hundred dollars. That, on top of the screen repair, will almost cost you a price of a new device. Make sure to get repair quotations from Samsung service center so you’ll know how much you’re going to pay them. Remember, breaking your device physically voids the manufacturer’s warranty. Even if your S8 is still within the warranty period at this time, you’ll still need to pay for the repair and parts replacement.

Problem #4: Galaxy S8 becomes slow and hot when Samsung Pay app is installed

I have an S8 on at&t. In March when I installed oreo 8 I had big issues that took a long time for me to figure out. The phone was slow, hot, and using the battery up fast. I figured out it was samsung pay app causing the issues so I force closed it. Then 2 weeks later an update for that app came. I updated and all was good. Just installed the new samsung experience 9 update and guess what? Same damn thing. I force closed the samsung pay app and phone works great again. I dont use samsung pay so it’s no biggie. But I would think that samsung would have fixed any conflicts before updating. There is an available update for samsung pay but I’m afraid to update it because it may jack my phone up again. Any suggestions?

Solution: Since you’ve already figured out the cause of the problem all by yourself, we recommend that you stick with the workaround you discovered — by disabling it. If Samsung Pay did not come with the operating system and you have the option to uninstall it, then go ahead and remove it from the system.

If it’s part of the core Samsung apps and you can only disable but not uninstall, you can also try a more drastic solution of rooting your device. Once the phone has been rooted, you can then uninstall the app permanently. Rooting put your device at risks since apps not normally designed to have access to normally secure files and folders will now be able to. If you are not tech savvy and does not fully comprehend the risks, then don’t consider rooting your phone at all.
