How To Fix Samsung Galaxy S9 Getting Pop Up Ads
Problem: I have a Samsung galaxy S9 which my mum got me from Dubai and it’s been working great. The only issue I had with it is that I got pop up ads, which when I tracked turned out to be Google ads. I was in the midst of solving the issue and trying to get rid of them – but other than being annoying and popping up more often as time passed on, the phone still worked great. But last night my phone died, and when I came to charge it this morning the battery charging sign didn’t show up and the whole screen was black. There wasn’t any blue or red light to indicate it was taking charge and I don’t think it’s a problem with the charger because the charger works normally other phones. As it’s a S9 I can’t open it to take out the battery, but I have noticed that the back of the phone is a little loose like it was dropped and opened up a bit. Does this mean there’s now an issue with my battery? Thank you.
Solution: Before you can resolve the pop up ads issue of your phone the first thing you will need to do is to make sure that it turns on. Although the back part of the phone is loose and this can potentially cause the battery to have a loose connection you should try performing the troubleshooting steps listed below to check if other factors are causing this problem.
Clean the charging port of the phone
Dirt or debris stuck in the charging port of the phone can cause charging issues and could possibly prevent the phone from turning on. To eliminate this possibility you should clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air.
Charge the phone
Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger. In case you don’t see any charging indicator then try using a different charging cord and wall charger.
Turn on the phone
Press and hold the power button until the phone turns on
Once the phone is turned on it’s time to tackle the pop up ads issue.
Start the Galaxy S9 in Safe Mode
The first thing you will need to do is to check if an app you installed is causing this problem. To do this you will need to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.
- Turn the phone off.
- Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
- When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.
If the issue does not occur in this mode then you will need to find out what app is causing the problem then uninstall it.
Backup your phone data then do a factory reset
If you can’t find out what app is causing the problem or if the issue persists even in Safe Mode then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts > Backup and restore.
- Tap the following sliders to desired setting: Back up my data, Automatic restore.
- Tap the Back key (bottom right) until you reach the main Settings menu.
- Tap General Management > Reset > Factory data reset.
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen, then tap RESET > DELETE ALL.
- If you have screen lock turned on, enter your credentials.
- If prompted to verify your Samsung account, enter the password, then tap CONFIRM.
- Wait for the device to finish the reset sequence.
