Problem: Good Morning (Evening, afternoon?) My issue is such. I had a completely normal day with my phone. No abnormal activities, no unusual performance issues, just any old day. I had been previously charging my phone in my car through the course of the day, with zero issue. Once having arrived home, sometime just before retiring, I noticed my battery was down to 10%. I plugged it into the same cable/brick/outlet that it had been charging from for some time now. It began charging per norm (fast charging even) but then, after about 10 seconds, it stops. My phone chimed to let me know I had only gotten to 12%, and was not registering being plugged in. After multiple retries and moving to different outlets, and trying numerous cord/brick combos, I continue to experience the same issue. If I do get it to register a charge (usually the 1st attempt at a new outlet) it stops after the same amount of time each time, roughly 10-20 seconds. After the 1st try at an outlet however, it will not even register the cord being inserted…. Please help!!!

Solution: Before doing any troubleshooting on this device it is always best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available make sure to download it and install it in your phone.

Once your phone is already running on the latest software update then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Clean the charging port of the phone

There are instances when dirt or debris that’s stuck in the charging port of the phone can cause charging problems. To verify if this is what’s causing the problem you should clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Once the port has been cleaned check if you are able to charge the phone.

Use a different USB charging cord

It’s a known fact that the charging cord of the phone gets easily damaged. This usually occurs when it is constantly coiled or bent. Try using a new charging cord to charge the phone then check if the issue still occurs.

Use a different wall charger

In some cases a faulty wall charger can cause this particular problem. To eliminate this possibility you should try using a different wall charger.

Factory reset the Galaxy J6

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will allow you to eliminate any software related glitches that could be causing the problem. Take note that you will have to backup your phone data before doing the reset as it will be deleted in the process.

  • Go to “Settings”
  • Go to “Personal”
  • Tap “Backup and reset”
  • Optionally, turn “Back up my data” and “Restore” ON or OFF
  • Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device”
  • If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN/password and tap “Continue”
  • Tap “Delete all” > “Reset device”

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component. If this is the case then the best thing you can do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
