Problem: Hi guys, You are my last resource since I didn’t want to bother you. I have a Samsung J6. Unlocked. I have a major issue which I think is microphone related. I can use the phone without any problem, but… as soon as I use  the microphone on any app I unleash hell…. Google assistant gets crazy and starts popping up like crazy. Videos cant be recorded, whatsapp voice messages stop, Shazam doesn’t work, the power button to lock/unlock the phone becomes unresponsive… only way to unlock the phone is by forcing the lock screen to show up (plugin/unplugging the charger) so I can use the fingerprint recognition. In order to reset this issue I have to SOFT RESET (power button + volume down) the phone and not use the microphone at all. Even when calling or receiving a call the same happens. I tried with permissions, tried resetting/updating google assistant, S voice, but no luck. I will use the factory reset as a last resource. BEST REGARDS!!!

Solution: The first thing that you need to do right now is to check if the issue occurs when the phone is running in Safe Mode.

  • With the phone turned on hold down the Power key for a few seconds.
  • Choose “Power off” until “Restart in safe mode” pops up.
  • Select “OK” and wait for about 4 seconds.
  • The phone will now start in Safe Mode.

If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

In case the issue occurs in Safe Mode then you should consider doing a factory reset in recovery mode. Just make sure to backup your phone data before performing this step.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device
