How To Fix Google Pixel 3 Not Getting Notifications

Problem: I just got my Pixel 3 from Google a few days ago and pulled my T-Mobile SIM card from my Samsung S7 into the Pixel and loaded info and a few apps from a backup. I’m having several weird problems with the phone from the very beginning. I have notifications turned on, and have yet to see any notifications pop up on either the ambient display or the top bar of the phone. All notifications are turned on. In every menu and setting I can find. The bigger issue is that when I receive a call, my phone vibrates and plays sound, but no screen pops up that would allow me to answer it. So there is no way to answer my phone. Outgoing calls are totally fine. I also get no notification of a missed call except on the call screen. This seems like some sort of software issue. I do not have Skype, or any other apps (other than Facebook Messenger) that might have caused issues with answering my phone. Do I need to backup and do a factory reset?

Solution: Before doing any troubleshooting on this device it’s best to make sure that the phone is running on the latest software version. If a new software update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first in your phone.

Turn on the lock screen notifications

The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to turn on the lock screen notifications of the phone as it might be switched off.

  • From a Home screen, touch and swipe up to display all apps.
  • Go to Settings – Apps & notifications- Notifications.
  • Tap On the lock screen then select the option: Show all notification content

Restart the Pixel 3 in Safe Mode

There’s a possibility that an app you downloaded is causing the problem. To check if this is the case you will need to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • With the device powered on, press and hold the Power button (located on the right-edge) until the Power off prompt appears then release.
  • Touch and hold Power off until the Reboot to safe mode prompt appears then release.
  • Tap OK to confirm.

If the problem does not occur in this mode then it is likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Backup data thn do a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step that you should consider doing is a factory reset. This allows you to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

  • Ensure the device is powered off.
  • Press and hold the Power+Volume Down buttons until bootloader mode (image of an Android with Start above it) appears, then release.
  • Select Recovery mode. Use the Volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the Power button to select. The device will flash the Google start screen then restarts in Recovery mode.
  • Select Wipe data/factory reset.
  • Select Yes.
  • Select Reboot system now.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should contact the Google Pixel support team regarding this matter.
