Problem: Galaxy Note8 “Low Battery. Your phones’s battery will be consumed while the USB OTG cable is connected. Disconnect the USB OTG cable to save your battery.” error
Galaxy note 8 is randomly flashing a quick message that says …”Low Battery. Your phones’s battery will be consumed while the USB OTG cable is connected. Disconnect the USB OTG cable to save your battery.” When no cable is connected to phone, and an OTG cable has never been used on device, only the USB-C cable that came with the phone.
Solution: The most likely reason for this error is a bad charging port. This usually happens if the charging port system is damaged. There’s a short list of troubleshooting steps for this issue. Follow them and see what works for you.
Use another charging cable
Sometimes, a bad USB cable can cause charging issues. Try to use another charging cable (make sure it’s working) and see if that will fix it. As much as possible, use an original Note8 cable for this purpose. Aftermarket cables can sometimes be problematic themselves as they are not properly validated with Samsung devices. Stick to official accessories to avoid damaging your phone.
Inspect the charging port
Pocket lint, dirt, debris, or damage inside can also lead to “Low Battery. Your phone’s battery will be consumed while the USB OTG cable is connected. Disconnect the USB OTG cable to save your battery” error. To see if there’s obvious indication of damage or foreign object in the charging port, do a quick visual check. Try using a magnifying tool if you want to see inside the port. If there’s dirt or something that doesn’t belong there, avoid sticking anything inside as that might damage the system. Instead, use a can of compressed air to remove any dirt or debris in the port.
Lastly, try to wipe your phone and return all software settings back to their defaults with a factory reset. This is an inevitable solution that you should do if all our suggestions above won’t help. To factory reset your Note8:
- Create a backup of your data.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Some Galaxy S8 and Note8 users in the past also encountered this error after updating Android. If that’s your case, make sure to wipe the phone with factory and see if that helps. Otherwise, consider reverting the OS version as the problem is more probably firmware-related. Samsung does not support flashing so you want to downgrade the OS at your own risk. Flashing can potentially brick your phone so make sure to do it carefully. Use Google to find the correct flashing guide for your particular phone model.
Get Samsung support
If you see visible charging port damage or if not one of the suggestions above help, the problem must be beyond your ability to fix. That means that repair is most probably required to bring the phone back to its normal operation. Be sure to get Samsung’s help in this situation.
If the problem only occurs when you connect the device to a USB cable and it’s preventing you from charging the phone, try to use a wireless charger instead. This should come handy if you want to power up the phone before shipping it out.
