Galaxy S8 wireless charging stopped working after an update

Keep in mind that not all Android problems can be fixed on an end user’s level. So, if nothing works after you’ve exhausted all software solutions, the problem must be beyond your ability to fix.

Problem #1: Galaxy S8 Plus won’t turn on after an update

Greetings. My Galaxy S8 PLus has all the symptoms described in this article: https://thedroidguy.com/2018/10/samsung-galaxy-s8-went-completely-dead-turned-off-wont-charge-anymore-easy-steps-1079742. I had it beside me on my bed, unplugged, when I realized it had turned off by itself. The power button didn’t bring it back up and none of my chargers make it charge either, haven’t used a wireless charger.

i did notice it was able to get hot on it’s own without being plugged after it had died. I’m certain it doesn’t have any physical damage, it has a RhinoShield bumper case, it has no bents, scratches, cracks or anything. It hadn’t had contact with any water whatsoever for at least 2 days and I had already charged it plenty of times, there was no moisture inside the usb port when i inspected it.

I was wondering as well, if you knew anything regarding it’s guarantee with Samsung. I bought it brand new in February, but it came from Saudi Arabia and I don’t know if Samsung will honor it’s guarantee here in MEX.

Also a thing to point out. This happened right after I updated the new software update, it couldn’t have been more than 1 or 2 hrs and I’m not sure if it even came back up after I updated it.

Solution: When it comes to an issue such as this, there’s very little that you can do in terms of troubleshooting. If you’ve already tried to all of the following

  • force reboot
  • charge using another set of charging cable and/or adapter
  • left the phone charged for at least 30 minutes

and did not get any positive result, then the only other troubleshooting step you want to try is to charge the phone wirelessly. If that won’t work still, you can assume that the system is dead. If the problem occured right after an update, it’s possible that there’s a firmware issue behind it. In most cases, the real cause lies on the hardware. Either way, you’ll need to let a professional check the device and there’s no better to do that than a Samsung technician.

As far as warranty is concerned, any brand new Galaxy device has a one year coverage. The terms though varies from region to region. If your S8 Plus was originally sold in Saudi Arabia, Samsung Mexico will most likely decline any support for it. That’s because their Service Center may not be equipped to handle hardware or software issues from non-Mexico devices. Warranty terms and conditions in Mexico may also be slightly different from that of non-Mexico countries. To be sure, we suggest that you contact your local Samsung Service Center.

Problem #2: How to fix Galaxy S8 sound issue: media volume becomes erratic when using Pandora app

I am having the same issue as the Galaxy S8 user whose solution you posted (Google assistant keeps opening and messing with the media volume, although it happens when I listen to pandora). I tried to follow your solution, but when I tried to turn it off, the only options available were “turn on” or “no thanks”, the latter of which would take me through a whole bunch of options basically trying to get me to choose another one of their services. So, I have put my phone on safe mode and observed my phone, while watching youtube and other types of media, in order to replicate the issue … nothing further has happened. What would you suggest from here? Thank you!

Solution: If your S8’s media volume works fine on safe mode but becomes problematic again once you boot it back to normal mode, one of the third party apps must be to blame. It’s likely that it may be due to your Pandora app. To narrow down the possible causes, you can use the method of elimination to pinpoint the problematic app. Here’s what you need to do exactly:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem. If the problem won’t occur on safe mode, proceed to the steps below.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. At this point, uninstall an app that you think is the source of the problem.
  5. After you uninstall the app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  6. If your S8 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Problem #3: How to fix Galaxy S8 calling issue: phone appears to dial but can’t make a call

Morning!  I have one user that when he dials the phone will just sit there dialing but never actually dial. This happens daily.  I have tried restarting the device as well as clearing the cache. This is not working. The user states that this only happens when walking in the Shop.  I have an S8 Plus as well as others in the building and I have not heard this issue reported from others. I could really use your help. Thanks!

Solution: Most probably just a poor signal issue. Tell the person with the problem to make sure that the phone has excellent network signal (4 or 5 signal bars) during calls to avoid experiencing the problem. Some phones may have weak radios compared to others so if there’s poor network signal in your shop, his or her phone may not be able to establish good cellular connection.

Problem #4: Galaxy S8 wireless charging stopped working after an update

My Samsung S8 worked fine before the latest update. I already had Oreo, but this was another update after. The problem is the fast charging. I have done a factory reset and that didn’t fix it. It is not the charger itself. It is due to the latest update. There were no problems until then. And, I made sure the fast charging was on in the settings. How do I fix it? Thanks.

Solution: Any update issue that can’t be fixed with factory reset requires seeking help from Samsung. The phone will either be repaired or replaced. If you are positive that your problem started right after an update and no software troubleshooting has helped so far, you can either send the phone in or downgrade Android.

The latter requires flashing of the previous Android version. Flashing has its risks but if you want to do it, try to find good flashing guides online to help you. Just remember, you can potentially brick the phone if flashing procedure goes wrong. Do it at your own risk.
