What to do if Samsung Galaxy A5 turned by itself off and won’t back on?

How to fix Galaxy A5 that turned off on its own and won’t turn on?

As I said earlier, this issue may seem like a hardware problem but more often than not, it’s just a minor firmware issue which you can fix by doing a couple of procedures. The black screen of death often occurs when the firmware crashes and it’s very easy to fix that. Here’s what you need to do…

Forced Reboot

A firmware crash can be fixed by a forced reboot. If you’ve owned a phone with a removable battery, then you may have tried pulling out the battery of your device when it hangs or stops responding. The forced reboot is just like that but we only do it to phone with non-removable batteries. Your Galaxy A5 is hardwired to respond to it provided that it’s done correctly. Here’s how you do it:

  • Press and hold both the volume down and power keys simultaneously for 10 seconds or more.

Provided the problem is just a firmware crash and that you did this simple procedure correctly, then your phone should already be booting up by now. If not, try doing it a couple more times but if the phone is still unresponsive, then try the following.

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. Now, press and hold the power key while holding down the volume down button.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds or more.

It’s basically the same as the first procedure only that we’re making sure this time that the volume down button is pressed and held before the power key because doing it otherwise won’t give you the same result. However, if your phone is still not responding after this, then try the next solution.

Charge phone and do the Forced Reboot again

It is possible that your phone’s battery got drained and while it’s not really a problem, there are times when the firmware would crash as some services and hardware components won’t be properly shut down if you let the device run out of juice. As a result, you’d already be dealing with a couple of minor issues that both would result to an unresponsive device.

The forced reboot would surely fix the firmware crash but if there’s not enough battery to power your phone up, it will remain unresponsive no matter what you do. To address that, here’s what you should do:

  1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet.
  2. Using the original USB cable, connect your phone to its charger.
  3. Regardless whether your phone shows the charging signs or not, allow it to charge for at least ten minutes.
  4. Then, press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it yet.
  5. Now, press and hold the power key while holding down the volume down button.
  6. Keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds or more.

If the problem is indeed caused by a drained battery that led to a firmware crash, then your Galaxy A5 should already be working properly now. However, if it’s still not responding after everything you’ve done, then it’s time to bring it to the shop as it could already be a hardware problem.
