In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8 not connecting to Wi-Fi after software update issue and other related problems.

S8 Not Connecting To Wi-Fi After Software Update
Problem: I got an S8 that won’t connect to WiFi after update. Followed all your steps and still no joy. Vodaphone shop tried something* that didn’t work either. Had worked brilliantly previously. any advice please. Thank you.
Solution: Try checking if this issue occurs when the phone connects to a different Wi-Fi network. If the phone can connect to a different network then the problem could be caused by an issue with your home router. In case the phone still can’t connect to a different Wi-Fi network then perform the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Forget the Wi-Fi network of the phone then try connecting to it again.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Do not install any apps in your phone after the reset instead try to check first if the issue still occurs.
In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component.
S8 Wi-Fi Calling Only Works On 2.4GHz
Problem: Wifi calling will always be grayed out on 5g. Try using 2.4g to fix the issue. After the morning from hell not getting the help needed by Sprint and by Samsung regarding this issue, in passing the Samsung rep said make sure my network is 2.4 g. Rebooted phone from partition, all the ts’ing. Nothing worked at home. Get frustrated, go to work. Go to work: Wifi calling works at work. What the shi+. Unbeknownst to me, only the 2.4 network is open at work. Because of course it is. At home, per Comcast, I had named my networks the same thing, being told devices would connect to whichever network they needed. Welp, turns out the phone doesn’t know to go over to the 2.4 network for wifi calls. I split my wifi names so I could choose my 2.4, and the option was no longer greyed out. Samsung s8 I don’t see this anywhere on the web, so I am shooting this over to you. Chances are the case is true for more than the s8. Please, include the 2.4 network in the ts’ing. Solution: The difference between a 2.4Ghz and 5GHz connection is that the 2.4GHz offers coverage at a farther distance but can perform at slower data speeds while the 5GHz connection provides faster data speeds but at shorter distances. If the phone is near the router then the Wi-Fi calling should work on the 5GHz network. If it doesn’t then there might be some radio interference that’s preventing the Wi-Fi calling to work properly or the 5GHz setting of the router is not properly set.
S8 Pokemon Go Only Works With Wi-Fi
Problem: I read your article about not being able to use Pokemon Go on Note 8 with mobile data. I am experiencing the same problem, but with the Samsung S8. I have tried factory reset – it doesn’t work. I have also ensured that Google Play is working – still doesn’t solve the problem. Any idea how I can solve this problem – Pokemon Go doesn’t work with mobile data but works with WiFi
Solution: Pokemon Go is an app that will need a strong and stable mobile data connection. It’s best if your phone is getting an LTE signal as this app uses a lot of data. The best way to troubleshoot this problem is to check if the problem occurs when you are in areas with weak or slow data connections.
In case the game does not work even with a strong mobile data connection then try to uninstall the app then install a fresh version from the Google Play Store.
