Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Error: Unfortunately, Youtube has stopped

The error message “Unfortunately, Youtube has stopped” simply means that the Youtube app, which comes pre-installed on your Samsung Galaxy Note 9, has crashed for some reason. More often, the error shows up when you open the app. In fact, the app won’t actually open if the error pops up but there are times when you could be able to use it for a few minutes before it crashes. No matter the case, it’s the same problem that you need to address if streaming videos on Youtube is a part of your daily routine.

In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your Galaxy Note 9 with Youtube app that keeps on crashing. We will try to consider every possibility and rule them one by one until we can determine why the problem occurs and how to deal with it. How to troubleshoot Galaxy Note 9 with “Youtube has stopped” error?

Based on the cases we’ve encountered in the past, having the error message “Unfortunately, Youtube has stopped” isn’t something you should extremely be worried about. Most of the time it’s just a minor problem that you can fix on your own without any help from a tech. That said, here’s what I suggest you do about it:

Reboot Note 9 in Safe Mode

Being the biggest tube service today, Youtube videos are shared everyday and most of the social media applications are somewhat connected to the app. Therefore, it’s possible that some of those apps cause Youtube to crash every now and then. We don’t know if this is really the case with your phone right now that’s why it’s important to run your device in safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps. Here’s how you do that:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  3. When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

Now, while your phone is in this mode, open Youtube to know if you still get the error message. If it doesn’t show up, then it means that there’s an app or two that’s causing it to crash. Find out which of your apps is the culprit and you can either clear its cache and data to reset it or uninstall it from your device. Moreover, you may reboot your phone normally now so you can begin your hunt for the problematic app.

On the other hand, if Youtube still crashes while in this mode, then it’s possible that the problem is with the app itself or it could be with the firmware. Move on to the next procedure.

Clear Youtube Cache and Data

This will reset Youtube and bring it back to its default settings and configuration. If the problem is only with the app, then this procedure is more than enough to make it work perfectly again. Don’t worry, you won’t lose any of your files if you did this.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
  4. Find and tap Youtube.
  5. Tap Storage > CLEAR CACHE > CLEAR DATA > DELETE.

Open the app to know if it still crashes or not and if it still does, it’s time to troubleshoot the firmware. Try the next procedure.

Reset All Settings

This will bring the device back to its factory settings without deleting your personal files, apps and data. So it has the effects of the Master Reset minus the hassle of transferring your files over to your SD card or computer. When it comes to app issues, this procedure is also very effective so you should try it.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset settings.
  3. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  6. The device will restart to perform the reset of settings.

After this try to see if the app still crashes and if so, then move on to the next solution.

Backup your personal files and do Master Reset

This time you need to make a backup of your personal files and data especially ones that are stored or saved in your phone’s internal storage because they will be deleted once the reset starts. Take time doing that so you won’t miss a thing. After the backup, follow these steps to do the Master Reset:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
