How to fix issues between your Galaxy S9 and in-vehicle Bluetooth system

Problem #1: Galaxy S9 only receiving group texts on safe mode

I took your advice on why my phone wasn’t able to receive group texts and put my phone on safe mode. My question is, if group texts started working on safe mode, then what is my next step? Should I delete all the apps that I downloaded? Is there a way to tell which app is causing the problem? And when can I take my phone off of safe mode? Thank you for your help!

Solution: The goal of using safe mode in troubleshooting is to know whether or not a third party app is interfering with Android. A third party app is any app that you added after unboxing the phone. Even if they are from Google, Samsung, or your carrier, apps that are not included in the original ones that came with the phone are considered third party. When your phone runs on safe mode, such apps won’t be allowed to run. So, if your S9 can send group messages on safe mode only, that means that one of the apps is to blame. Safe mode won’t pinpoint the exact app causing the problem though so you need to use the method of elimination to identify it. You can do that by uninstalling third party apps individually and observing the phone after each uninstall. Here’s what you want to do exactly:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your S9 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Problem #2: Galaxy S9 can’t make calls or send and receive texts

I have not been able to make any calls or receive and send texts. I’ve spent the last day and a half googling to fix this issue. I tried another sim card and it does not work in my phone either. I’ve called tech support on my mobile plan, factory reset, soft reset, reset network settings, apn confirm, the list goes on and on for the things I’ve tried. I even tried the *#*#4636#*#* and it won’t do anything — nothing comes up for me to ping test or anything. it detects the sim and its carrier vodafone but is not getting network. Could you possibly give me suggestions on things to do that I haven’t already done?

Also the message I get when trying to call is not registered on network and I’ve tried to select network manually and it’s not listed and I’ve tried to connect to the others and my phone won’t connect to them.

Also tried connecting to 2G only 3G only and all the others and it’s not making a difference. it’s my own firsthand phone and it has never been rooted, has stock rom and the imei is valid as i check in with samsung so if not the null imei or if its not carrier blocked as we dont get locked phones in india. what could possibly be the matter?

Solution: Is your account working in other phones? Assuming you’re in a GSM network, did you try to insert your SIM card to another compatible and known working phone to see if calling and texting work? If you are able to send and receive texts as well as make calls without problem using another phone, that means that the problem must lie on your Galaxy S9 and not on your account. Try to install any available update as that may have a patch that may fix whatever issue the phone has with its modem. If there’s no update at all and your S9 has been running the latest Android version all along, the problem is most probably not fixable on your level. Since a factory reset did not change anything, you should consider having the device checked by Samsung so it can be repaired or replaced.

Problem #3: How to fix issues between your Galaxy S9 and in-vehicle Bluetooth system

When my s9 is connected to my car’s bluetooth (ford sync, car is 2014). I get notifications through the car but on my actual phone the text is delayed. Sometimes i have the text app open, it will show and then disappear again. Eventually it will show but makes it hard to understand certain texts if sync doesn’t speak the message well enough to understand. I don’t think i had this issue when i first got the phone in August, so may be due to a recent update.

Solution: If your S9 still connects or pair with your in-vehicle Bluetooth system at this time, you may be right to say that it’s probably due to recent update. Most problems between phones and car infotainment systems are due to incompatibility. Because phones tend to receive more updates than in-vehicle Bluetooth systems, it’s not uncommon for incompatibility issues to occur between the two. While newer Bluetooth versions running on phones are designed to be backwards compatible, not everything may work right all the time. With many companies using many different Bluetooth profiles and techniques in their products, not all bugs and compatibility between devices can be anticipated all the time. This is the general reason why problems occur.

To see if your issue can be fixed, try to delete all pairings between the two devices, then reconnect them. Make sure to also reboot both devices before attempting to pair. If that won’t fix it, contact your car manufacturer to see if there’s a way to update your in-vehicle Bluetooth system. If you’re lucky, an update may be the relatively easy fix for your issue. Otherwise, you may be stuck with this problem.

Problem #4: Galaxy S9 keeps restarting on its own

I was into something the other day that has to do with system cache,and stuff I probably shouldn’t been messing with. Well I erased some memory, files, etc. and now for the last 2 weeks my Galaxy S9 is restarting on its own. I would say it does it twice a day now. It has never done this until I messed with it. I tried the soft reset.. left the battery out 20 min!! Still doing it.. I tried the system reboot.. turn off phone hold down up volume while holding home button then hitting power button… could you please tell me what I have done to my phone?? And how to fix it please!

Solution: What makes you think we can tell what’s wrong with your phone at this time? Only you knows the history of your device so telling you exactly what’s wrong with it is beyond us. You may have deleted an important system app, or corrupted the operating system. To bring everything back to normal, we suggest that factory reset the device.

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once you’ve reset the phone to its default software setup, try not to mess with the system again by deleting stuff you don’t know.
