Galaxy S9 won’t remember chosen default app to play videos

Problem #1: Galaxy S9 won’t remember chosen default app to play videos

Almost every time i play a video my phone asks me what video player i want to use, photos, gallery, or default video player? i choose “video player” and “always.” of course by choosing “always” my phone should save my preference and not ask again unless i reset my default preferences. no matter how many times i choose “always” it still asks me almost every single time what video player i want to use. this used to never happen but now it happens frequently. please help.

Solution: Another way to set an app as default is by doing the following steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Default apps.
  3. Tap on an app you want to nominate as default for a particular task like Gallery.

If you can see that a particular app has already been set as default to do a task like when opening a video, but doesn’t act like it should, consider clearing the defaults. Then, once the prompt asking to set an app default comes up again, select your preferred app.

If this won’t fix the issue at all, you can try to reset all app preferences and see what happens. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap More settings (three-dot) icon at the upper right.
  4. Tap Reset app preferences.

If the issue stays after resetting app preferences, you can also try to see what happens after clearing the system cache. To do that, follow the steps below:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  5. Press the Power key to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Any of these troubleshooting steps should help fix the issue. If nothing changes after doing all of them though, don’t hesitate to wipe the phone thru factory reset.

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Problem #2: How to recover files from corrupted SD card in Galaxy S9

I have a Samsung 64GB micro SD card which has been running smoothly in my phone for quite a while. But now I realised everything I saved on to my SD card has disappeared. I don’t have a clue what to do as I tried putting it in my PC and It still won’t work. Furthermore, I put it in a another phone which accepts MicroSD cards but it still wouldn’t show up?? Please help me I really have lost some valuable data which I need back. Hope to hear from you soon. 

Solution: If two other devices can’t read or recognize the files stored in that SD card, then those files are good as gone. The files or the SD card itself may have become corrupted. Unless you know exactly what caused the corruption to take place, there’s 99.9% chance that you won’t be able to fix them at this time. Once an SD card or file has been corrupted, there’s often no way to undo it.

Problem #3: How to fix Galaxy S9 texting issue: can’t receive MMS

My boyfriend and I are on the same account with AT&T. We both picked up the Samsung Galaxy S9 the day they came out. We have had problems receiving picture texts from each other since day one. When I finally went in and changed the APN settings in my phone, everything seemed to be fixed. But for only like 2 weeks. Now suddenly, with no changes or updates, we are not receiving images through the messaging app once again. It doesn’t matter what type of image – camera, screenshot, or download – nothing is coming through. We don’t seem to have this problem with any other contacts.

Solution: There may be a bug  in your accounts that only your network operator can fix. We suggest that you report the trouble to them so they can help you identify the cause and provide a solution. They are in a better position to address the issue since they have access to account information we don’t have. We don’t think that the cause is device related but it won’t hurt if you can try clearing the network settings of your device before asking support from your carrier. Here’s how to do that:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap General Management > Reset settings.
  3. Tap Reset network settings.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

Problem #4: Computer won’t recognize Galaxy S9 Plus

My Galaxy S9 Plus  won’t connect to my computer.  I have tried connecting it with a USB and it won’t recognize it.  My phone will charge when plugged into my computer, but I can’t find my phone to transfer files from phone to my computer.

Solution: The problem may not be coming from your phone but within the computer itself. Make sure that it runs the latest available operating system version and has all the drivers needed to detect Samsung phones. If your computer’s OS is up-to-date, then you can install Samsung Smart Switch app to it so it detects your S9 Plus. If your computer has other Samsung programs installed, be sure to uninstall them first prior to installing Smart Switch.

How to install Smart Switch on your computer

If you think your computer meets or exceeds the basic requirements of this program, then installing it is straightforward. We will provide the general steps on what you need to do on your Windows PC but the steps should be similar if you own a Mac.

  1. Open the internet browser on your computer and visit the installation page for Smart Switch app.
  2. Click on the appropriate download link.
  3. Click to launch the downloaded .exe file (.dmg on Mac).
  4. Confirm that you accept the terms of the license agreement by clicking the two check boxes.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Complete the installation process by clicking the Finish button. After that, the newly installed Smart Switch app will run automatically.
