S8 Gets Hot Even When Not Used

Problem: Hello, I have experienced twice (different days, not right after the first day this happened) that my samsung galaxy S8 is warm when I wake up and grab it, while not being connected to the charger. Also the battery has drained from 70% since I last used it mid-night to 20% in the morning. This got my attention and I am asking if this issue is known or just a random bug that has occured on my device. What I have also found weird is the fact that Snapchat makes my phone get really hot in the top right corner of the screen after a few minutes of use, no other application for what I know has caused this heat, however my phone did not give me any overheating message warning me about it so I didn’t really bother with it, however, the heat did not drain the battery too much. I would be happy if I could get help with this. (Also sorry for my relatively basic English, it’s not my native language)

Solution: There’s a possibility that the problem is caused by one of the apps you downloaded. To check if this is the case you should start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by a downloaded app. You will need to find out what app this is and uninstall it. I suggest that you start with the Snapchat app.

In case the problem occurs even in Safe Mode then you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try checking first if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to have your phone checked at a service center.

S8 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: Got an interesting one for ya. S8. Sprint/Global build. Over the course of almost a year, I’ve had a slew of problems with this bad boy. Through them all I’ve loved it and treated it well. First started with a preemptively dying battery. It started dying at 20% and had only worse as time went on. More recently, I’ve had odd graphical glitches occur. Mostly stationary digital static in horizontal bars across the primary and second screens. When that occurs the phone gets painfully laggy, and sometimes will take over the whole screen. It happened shortly after I got the Oreo update and was wondering if you’ve heard anything on the matter. On top of that, though I can’t access recovery mode, it won’t do anything. I try to get it to wipe the phone and it doesn’t. I have attempted 2 resets to no avail, and in fact seemed to worsen the issue.

Solution: The best thing that that you can do right now is to check if the problem occurs when the phone is running in Safe Mode. If you don’t experience the problem in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then you should try to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone just yet. Try to check first if the problem still occurs. If it does then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component.

S8 Battery Drains Even When Charging

Problem: I started having a problem with my phone in July.  I noticed that the when the phone was on the wireless charger, the battery would start to drain, instead of charge.  I purchased a new wireless charger, thinking it was the charger, but the same thing was happening. I had it on the charger overnight, and woke up to a completely dead phone.  I tried plugging it in through the regular port, but nothing would happen- just a blank screen. I tried charging it on the car charger. I was able to get it to turn on for a few seconds.  It gave me a message saying it detected water damage. My phone had not been in or near water, I never dropped my phone in any liquid, so that didn’t make any sense. I brought my phone immediately to Sprint, and they checked the inside.  They didn’t see any water damage, and they saw that it now would not even connect to a wireless charger. They changed out the battery. Fast forward to yesterday, out of nowhere, my phone battery completely drained very quickly, and shut down.  I am not able to turn it on, even after is has been charged. I brought my phone back to Sprint where they opened it up again. Now they are telling me that screws are rusted and that the red button that shows water damage shows. Again, the phone has not been anywhere near or in water.  I have no idea why this is happening. Of course, they don’t believe me. Is it possible the battery leaked or exploded to cause damage that looks like water damage? They want to charge me for water damage- but my phone was not in water!!!

Solution: The presence of rust and the change in color of the liquid damage indicator sticker is usually a sign that water or moisture has entered the phone. The best thing you can do right now is to have the phone assessed at a Samsung center.

S8 Not Wirelessly Charging

Problem: i have a samsung S8, i charge on a wireless charging dock, today it stopped charging. the blue light on dock comes on when set on it but the red light showing it is charging does not. i tried just plugging it in but still nothing. now my phone is completely dead and i can’t do nothing with it. i just day before installed the last update to it.

Solution: What you will want to do right now is to clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Once this is done try charging the phone for at least 20 minutes using a different charging cord and wall charger. In case the phone does not charge then try charging it from a computer USB port.

Once the phone has charged try turning it on. In case it does not turn on then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component.
