J7 Internet Not Working On Mobile Data Connection

Problem: So my boyfriend gave me his fully paid for, new Samsung Galaxy j7. He got a phone upgrade to a IPhone 8 plus and gave me this phone bc my family couldn’t afford to pay for a new phone.. It’s a Sprint programmed phone but was automatically unlocked when it was fully paid for. I have AT&T. The one who put my new SIM card in said it should work perfectly fine on my network. But the day after I got it activated, I started noticing that phone calls will go through and the same with text messages. But pictures I send in texts and received texts do not send or download. And my internet and games that work on internet will not load. It keeps saying that I have no connection every time I turn the wifi off and try and use data. I have tried airplane mode and restarting my phone over and over, it doesn’t work. I noticed there are different data connection of some sort I can change but too scared to unless I’m 100% nothing bad will happen, and will fix my problem. Can u please help me?

Solution: The most likely reason why you are unable to use the mobile data connection of AT&T is because the APN settings of the phone are still set for the Sprint network. What you will want to do is to change these settings to what AT&T is using.

To access the APN settings of your phone:

  • From the Home screen, tap the Apps tray.
  • Tap Settings > Connections.
  • Tap Mobile networks.
  • Tap Access Point Names.

Delete any APN setting saved in your phone then create a new one with the following settings:

  • Name: NXTGENPHONE
  • APN: NXTGENPHONE
  • Proxy: Not set
  • Port: Not set
  • Username: Not set
  • Password: Not set
  • Server: Not set
  • MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
  • MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
  • MMS port: 80
  • MCC: 310
  • MNC: 410
  • Authentication Type: None
  • APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri
  • APN protocol: IPv4
  • Bearer: Unspecified

You should be able to use your mobile data subscription once you input the correct APN settings in your phone.

J7 Randomly Disconnects From Wi-Fi Network

Problem: My J7 phone Wifi connection fails out at home after about 1 minute and comes up as disabled. I currently have Century Link for home internet and can maintain a valid connection for the minute. I attempted turning off the wifi manager and mobile data so it would force the phone to maintain connection to wifi. I’ve attempted resetting the network and phone soft reset methods. I have tried clearing the network log and cache. Phone will remain connected for the minute then it disables the network again.

Solution: The first thing you need to do in this case is to check if the problem occurs when you try connecting the phone to a different Wi-Fi network. If the problem does not occur then this might be caused with an issue with your router. Try forgetting the Wi-Fi network from your phone then restart the router and your phone. Connect your phone again to your Wi-Fi network once both devices have started. Should the issue persist then you should check your router settings.

In case the problem occurs even when the phone is connected to a different Wi-Fi network then the best thing you can do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will allow you to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. Once the reset is complete immediately check if the problem still occurs. If it does then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component in which case you will need to have this checked at a service center.

J7 Reboots When Out Of Wi-Fi Range

Problem: Hi, I’m having an issue with my Galaxy J7.  Every time my phone goes from having WiFi to not having WiFi, either by me turning it off or by getting out of range my phone crashes and reboots.  Following your troubleshooting guides I have clear the partition cache and even tried booting in Safe Mode. The error still happens in Safe Mode. I’m on the latest Android Version.  What are the next steps I can do without having to completely wipe the phone and start over to fix this problem? Thank you

Solution: Since the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then the next step you should do is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

In case the issue still occurs after the reset then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J7 Drops Wi-Fi Connection

Problem: Hi guys, having issues with my wifi on my Galaxy J7 . The phone is only 2 months old and I’m having internet connection issues. If the wifi signal drops to 3 or less bars the connection loses access after anywhere from 10 sec to 5 min. I’ve tried a number of solutions but usually end up resetting the phones wifi or forgetting the network and RC. I’ve tried resetting the network settings also with no success and also changing to a static IP and back auto (another site recommended this) with no real improvement. Oddly enough I’ve been able to maintain a good connection for hours but only when being as close to the nearest router as possible.

Solution: What you should do first in this case is to check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If the issue still occurs in Safe Mode then you should proceed with a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
