Samsung Galaxy Note 7 now official with an Iris Scanner, dual-edge display and water-resistant body

Galaxy Note 7

The #Samsung #GalaxyNote7 is now official. Just as expected, the company unveiled its latest and greatest flagship at a dedicated event today and also gave us a brief rundown of its hardware in a blog post. The design hasn’t seen much change compared to the S7 flagships from earlier this year, but that was to be expected. However, this is the most advanced Note ever and we mean that in almost every sense.

Let’s give you a rundown of the hardware first:

  • 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED dual edge display
  • 12-megapixel f/1.7 rear camera
  • 5-megapixel f/1.7 front camera
  • Snapdragon 820/Exynos 8890 SoC
  • 4GB RAM
  • 64GB internal storage (expandable by 256GB)
  • Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow (upgradable to Android 7.0 Nougat)
  • 3,500 mAh fast charging battery
  • IP68 certified water/dust resistant body and S Pen

Now these are the key hardware specifications of the smartphone, what about the rest? Well, the handset also features the much-rumored iris scanner on the front, letting you unlock the device using just your eyes. There’s fingerprint based unlocking as well, which has been standard on Galaxy flagships since the Galaxy S5. The fingerprint scanner can also be used for Samsung Pay, much like all the Galaxy flagships since 2015.

The handset will be available in Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx starting August 19. We expect carrier availability to be announced shortly. The American models should be sporting the Snapdragon 820 chipset while Asia and parts of Europe will probably have the Exynos 8890 SoC, much like the S7 flagships.
