When your device is not able to charge completely, the charger may be damaged and not working. The same thing can happen if the battery, your phone’s charging port or relevant components are damaged. Intermittent or unstable charging to no charging at all will be the transpiring symptoms.
But before procuring a new charger or taking your phone to a service center, you can try some workarounds to rule out software errors that might have prevented your phone from charging properly. The following solutions I’ve mapped out can be used to deal with a relevant issue on a Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 smartphone. You can try these methods if your phone prompts an error that says ‘Incomplete Connection’ and then stops charging.
Before we proceed, if you’re looking for a solution to a problem with your phone, try to browse through our troubleshooting pages to see if we support your device. If your phone is in the list of our supported devices, then go to the troubleshooting page and look for similar problems. Feel free to use our solutions and workarounds. Don’t worry it’s free. First solution: Force restart then recharge.
If this is the first time you see the Incomplete Connection error when charging your phone, it could be just a random error affecting the charging system of the phone. To fix such errors, try to unplug your phone from the charger and if possible, force it to restart. Doing so will clear any errant apps that might have afflicted the charging system and prevented your device from getting fully charged. Here’s how to force restart your Galaxy A8 2018 smartphone:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and Power button simultaneously for about 10 to 20 seconds or until the Samsung logo shows up on the screen.
- Release both buttons when the Samsung logo appears.
A force restart won’t affect any data stored on the internal memory, thus won’t cause data loss.
Second solution: Charge your phone using other compatible charger.
Your charger may be having some sort of damage or loose that it couldn’t establish a secure connection with the charging port. As a result, the charging process is intermittent. If your charger won’t fit, there’s a tendency that it would completely lose contact with the port and thereby results to this charging error.
To make sure this isn’t due to a faulty charger, try to charge your Galaxy A8 2018 using other compatible charger you have. If the error does not occur when using a different charger, then it’s apparently a charger issue. In that case, you need to replace the charger. But if the error reoccurs even when using other chargers, your device will likely needs service. It’s possible that the charging port is damage and needs some repair.
Third solution: Manage apps and their power usage.
Some rogue may also halt the charging system and yields to an incomplete connection error when charging. If this is the first time you encounter the error without dropping or getting your phone wet, then bad apps can be considered among the causing factors. In that case, try to check your phone’s battery usage and see which app is using the most power and how.
To view more of your phone’s battery usage, follow these steps:
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Device.
- Tap Battery or Battery Usage.
The following screen will show more details of what uses how much of your phone’s battery life in a specific period of time.
If you see any unusual data, then you need to manage that app. Forcing the app to close, clearing app cache and data, or uninstalling the app are among the recommended workarounds you can try on if ever you see any apps with unusual power consumption.
Fourth solution: Update phone software to the latest version (if possible).
If possible, try to update your phone software to the latest version. This error can also be inflicted by some bugs that might have caused the phone’s charging system to crash and stop working. You can update your Galaxy A8 2018 wirelessly (OTA) or using SideSync or use Odin software on your computer.
If you managed to charge your phone even only up to 50 percent, then that would be enough power to download and install new software update wirelessly. Software updates are rolled out periodically to offer fix patches that will get rid of bugs that trigger occurrence of various errors on the phone.
To check for, download, and install new software update on your Galaxy A8 2018 wirelessly, follow these steps:
- Swipe up from the bottom of the Home screen.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to and tap Software update.
- Tap the option to Download updates manually.
Wait for your device to finish searching for updates. You will see a notification that says whether or not your phone is up to date. Follow the onscreen instructions to continue downloading and installing new update.
Fifth solution: Wipe cache partition on your Galaxy A8 2018.
Wiping cache partition can also get rid of the error if it’s triggered by errant system cache. Cache aren’t only stored an apps but also occupied system folders of your device. Just like apps cache, system cache can also become corrupted. When this happens, there’s a tendency that other phone systems are adversely affected. To make sure this isn’t what’s causing the charging system to suddenly fail and prompt the incomplete connection error, follow these steps to wipe cache partition on your Galaxy A8 2018 smartphone:
- With your device powered off, press and hold the Power, Home and Volume Up buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
- Release the buttons when the Android screen appears and the phone loads in Recovery mode.
- Press the Volume Down button several times to highlight Wipe cache partition then press the Power button to confirm.
- Wait until the device is finished wiping cache from the system partition. As soon as it’s completed, the Reboot System Now option will become highlighted.
- Press the Power button to reboot your device to apply the recent changes and refresh the operating system.
After the restart, try charging your phone and see if the incomplete connection error is gone. If the error still shows up, then you’re likely dealing with hardware damage either on the charger or charging components of your phone.
You may contact your device carrier or Samsung Support to escalate the problem for further assistance and recommendations. This is highly recommended especially if the incomplete connection error started to show up after installing an update on your Galaxy A8 2018. Alternatively, you can bring your phone to a Samsung service center in your place and have it examined by an authorized technician for hardware damage. Also take the charger so it can be scrutinized too.
