How to troubleshoot LG G7 ThinQ with Instagram app that keeps crashing

Problems with third-party apps are basically minor in nature. You can fix them on your own without having to ask for help from some techie guys. Uninstalling Instagram will immediately fix the problem but it also means you can no longer use the app. The purpose of this post is to fix the problem so that you can continue using Instagram. With all that being said, here’s what you should do about it:

First solution: Try to reboot your phone

While we’re tackling an app crash here, there’s still a chance that it’s a result of firmware glitch. Glitches happen all the time and you may not know there’s one happening in your phone, you just see the result like this. So, the first thing you should do is restart your phone as it’s the best procedure to address a glitch. After that, open Instagram to know if Instagram still crashes and if it does, you should try doing the forced reboot.

The forced reboot is far more effective than a normal restart because it will refresh your phone’s memory and reload all apps and services. To do this, press and hold the Power button and Volume Down at the same time until the device powers off, approximately 8 seconds, then release.

Open Instagram once the phone becomes active and if the problem is still happening, then try the next solution.

Second solution: Clear Instagram’s cache and data

After ruling out the possibility that this problem is just a result of a glitch and it continues to bug you, then it might be just a problem with the app. Issues like this can be fixed by resetting the app and that means clearing or deleting the app’s cache and data. It will bring the app back to its default settings and configuration and here’s how you do it:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap the General tab then select Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap App info.
  4. Tap to select a desired filter. Options include All, Enabled, and Disabled apps.
  5. Locate and select Instagram from the apps list.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Cache to wipe temporary files for the app.
  8. If you want to clear Instagram app data, tap Clear Data then tap Yes to confirm.

If the problem is still happening after doing this, then it’s time to move on to another solution.

Third solution: Uninstall Instagram and reinstall it

Sometimes updating the app you’re having problems with is enough to fix problems like this but in this case, it’s better to completely remove Instagram from your phone so as to remove all its associations with the firmware and other applications. Then, reinstall it to make sure you have the latest version of the app.

  1. Go to the Home screen then tap Settings.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap App info.
  4. Find and select Facebook app.
  5. Tap Uninstall then tap OK on the warning prompt, to uninstall or delete the app from your device.

Reboot your phone after uninstalling the app and then open Play Store and download it again. Find out if it still crashes or not but I’m confident enough that these procedures will fix the problem. However, there’s no guarantee it won’t happen again in the future.

Fourth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

This is your last resort if all else fails or if the problem happens again in the future. This will give your device a fresh start and bring it back to its factory settings and configurations. Just make sure you make a backup of your important files and data as you may never recover them once they’re deleted.

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Go to the General tab.
  3. Tap Restart & reset.
  4. Select Factory data reset option.
  5. If applicable, tap the Erase SD card checkbox to clear contents from your SD card.
  6. Tap Reset Phone then Delete All.
  7. Tap Reset to confirm action.
