How to fix Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus with Facebook app that closes on its own?

Facebook is a pre-installed app on your Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus so if it has some issues, you really have to deal with them as you cannot uninstall the app just like any other third-party apps. The most common problem you may encounter is an app crash wherein the app may close on its own or you may get the error message “Unfortunately, Facebook has stopped.”

How to troubleshoot Galaxy S9 Plus with Facebook that closes on its own

As I said earlier, this is a pretty minor issue and you only need to do a few troubleshooting procedures to fix it. Try to see what works for you…

First solution: Clear cache and data of Facebook app

It’s very much possible that this is just a simple issue with the app so the first thing you need to do is reset Facebook. Clear its cache and data to bring it back to its default settings and configuration. If the problem is with the app, then this is the only thing you need to do to make it work again.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Find and tap Facebook.
  4. To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
  5. Tap Storage > CLEAR CACHE > CLEAR DATA > DELETE.

Don’t worry, you won’t lose any of your facebook posts, pictures and data by doing this but you will have to log back into your account as you will be logged out.

If the app continues to crash or close on its own after clearing its cache and data, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Find out if it’s caused by third-party apps

Facebook is often integrated with other apps as it’s used for sharing. It’s possible that one of your third-party applications causes facebook to crash. To confirm if it’s really the case, reboot your phone in safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps.

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  3. When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

If the problem is seems fixed while in safe mode, reboot your phone in normal mode and then continue using it but be observant enough to know which app triggers facebook to crash. Once you already have an app in mind, then you may clear its cache and data or even uninstall it to fix the problem.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list.
  4. To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
  5. Tap UNINSTALL > OK.

If the app, however, still crashes while in safe mode, then you could be facing a firmware issue and you need to do the next procedure.

Third solution: Master Reset

Since Facebook is a pre-installed app, it’s embedded in the firmware and if this problem continues to bug you even after doing the first two procedures, then backup your important files and data and then perform the Master Reset your phone.

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
