How to fix Galaxy S9 Facebook browser that keeps crashing when loading an article (“Can’t connect. This website can’t be loaded….” error

There seems to be an increasing number of Android and non-Android users reporting the same troubles lately — Facebook and its related apps and services seem to be having issues. The reported problems appear to be sporadic and happens all over so there may be a general issue with Facebook’s network. The affected apps include Facebook app, Facebook app browser, Whatsapp, and Instagram. In this article, we address the on-going glitches with Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, Instagram, and Facebook app browser on the #GalaxyS9. Our solutions can be applied to all Samsung smartphones though so even if you don’t use an S9 or S9 Plus, you still can follow the solutions outlined below.

Before we proceed, we want to remind you that if you are looking for solutions to your own #Android issue, you can contact us by using the link provided at the bottom of this page. When describing your issue, please be as detailed as possible so we can easily pinpoint a relevant solution. If you can, kindly include the exact error messages you are getting to give us an idea where to start. If you have already tried some troubleshooting steps before emailing us, make sure to mention them so we can skip them in our answers.

Problem #1: Galaxy S9 Plus Bixby not working

Bixby does not work at all. It has not worked since I unboxed my new S9 Plus. I have tried every single option I could find online and or I the advice of a Samsung tech support agent. I have reset my phone, factory reset my phone, cleared the cache, force stopped the app, entered safe mode…. all to no avail. The dedicated button does not work at all. I can access bixby home by swiping the screen to get there but once I’m there nothing works. I can’t set reminders, use bixby voice, or view tutorials. When I clear the storage the bixby button will work once to begin the set up process. It tells me to hold the button to talk to bixby, select a language, and to accept the terms. Then it stops. The Bixby home screen reverts to my regular phone screen home. At this point the button is useless, and so is all the other features. It does not display an error message so I can’t tell you what that says. I have used Samsung switch to try to get updates. This also does nothing. Bixby also does not function in safe mode so I can’t try to pin point an app from interfering.

Solution: There’s only so much that you can do about an Android issue like this. If what you’re saying that Bixby, a core functionality for a high-end brand new Galaxy device, has not worked after unboxing is true, then you must have received a lemon. This does not happen often and it’s actually our first time to have heard about it. This is clearly an isolated case and may be attributed to a bad hardware. Since a factory reset did not did not make a difference at all, we  doubt if there’s anything that you can do on your end to fix it. We suggest that you contact Samsung again so you can ask for a replacement device.

Problem #2: How to fix Galaxy S9 Facebook browser keeps crashing when loading an article (“Can’t connect. This website can’t be loaded….” error

Whenever I open articles off of Facebook to read, I get the following message several times “can’t connect. This website can’t be loaded. Please check the address and your network, wifi, or data connection and try again. Net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED.” This happens at home and work, my wifi is fine. If I hit “try again”, i can usually read for another minute before it pops up again. I am growing very frustrated. Also, Instagram crashes everytime I open it.

Solution: Many Facebook users have reported this same exact issue for the past couple of days. We also experienced it ourselves so it’s most probably something on Facebook’s end. As of this writing, we can confirm that the issue has disappeared on our end. If it continues to occur on your device, these are the things that you can try:

Install Facebook app update

Whenever you suspect that there’s an app-specific issue occuring, the first thing that you need to do is to install an update. Be sure to visit Google Play Store app and install Facebook updates thru it. If there’s no Facebook update available, proceed to the solutions below.

Clear Facebook app cache

Another good app troubleshooting is to clear its cache. If you haven’t tried it yet, here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap your Facebook app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
  8. Restart your S9 and check for the problem.

Clear Facebook app data

Clearing Facebook’s data should be the next logical troubleshooting step for you. The steps are essentially similar to clearing the cache above.

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap your Facebook app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Data button.
  8. Restart your S9 and check for the problem.

Reinstall Facebook app

Should wiping the app’s cache and data won’t help, try to erase Facebook from the system, restart the device, and re-install. This often works for most app-specific issues.

Report bug to Facebook

Should all the above suggestions won’t work, the problem is most probably due to a coding- or server-side issue. Report the trouble to Facebook using the app’s reporting tool under Settings. If there are many users experiencing the issue, Facebook will eventually take notice of the problem and release a patch to fix it.

How to fix Instagram app that keeps crashing

Instagram is also a Facebook app so your problem with it must be related or connected to Facebook services in your region. Make sure to follow our suggestions above or this article to address it.

Problem #3: What to do if Facebook apps and services are not working properly on your Galaxy S9

I just got this phone about a week ago and when using Facebook messenger or WhatsApp, I will send messages and sometimes it will take a minute or 2 to send. This issue occurs on both wifi and data. On WhatsApp the message will show only 1 check mark for a few minutes before sending and I will get incoming messages delayed. For Facebook messenger, it says waiting for internet connection or when I send a message it will be a outlined blue circle, meaning not sent yet. Incoming messages will take awhile to load as well and will all come together. I noticed similar problems with Instagram as well. Thank you for your time and efforts.

Solution: Facebook apps and services may be encountering technical difficulties at this time. We don’t work for Facebook so we cannot confirm or provide accurate information when issues on their network will be resolved. Don’t worry though, Facebook has everything to lose if issues like the ones you’re experiencing keeps getting extended. We’re pretty sure they’re doing the best they can to resolve the problems. At this time, all we can recommend are the ones we provide for Problem #2 above. If you’ve already tried all of them before contacting us, then what you can do is to simply wait it out until Facebook figure out a solution.
