J3 Screen Is Black And Unresponsive

Problem: My J3 will turn on and the light goes blue and then the music plays but the screen just stays black. the touch screen is responsive and the buttons all seem to work the screen just stays black. I’ve tried taking doing a soft reset and stuff but no change thanks.

Solution: The first thing you should do in this case is to make sure that the battery of your phone has sufficient charge. Charge the phone first for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger. Once this is done do a soft reset by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. In case the issue still persists then you will have to start the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then you will need to do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component. You will need to have this checked at a service center.

J3 Screen Is Black But Phone Is Working

Problem: Phone was being held to ear and husband was sweating heavily. When he removed phone from ear, the screen went black. He checked for and found no water damage. After trying several random acts to fix it, he decided to dry it out just in case. He  dropped the phone into decadent beads (not sure of spelling, but they are the beads he uses to remove water from his compressor’s airline before he sprays paint). He waited 48 hours, took phone out. The screen was still black. He is able to receive calls and send messages if he uses hands-free system in car. His battery is 100%. He did the “anti-static” procedure on the screen. I tried to restore to factory settings. I feel like we have tried everything short of taking it to a Tech. Finances will not allow that right now.

Related Problem: My screen is doing the black screen thing. I have rebooted it, booted it in safe mode. Done the power and down volume reboot. The quirky thing is that maps seems to be continuing to pop up. I can’t disable it. After screen goes black I can pull up open apps in the tile function and maps is always up even when I try to x out of it.

Solution: It looks like the display of the phone has been damaged. To verify if this is the case try to start the phone in recovery mode and from here do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data. If this does not fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center since it is likely that the display assembly of the phone will have to be replaced.

J3 Screen Randomly Flickers

Problem: My wifes J3 is exhibiting screen problems. When select a function like contacts, messaging or any other icon the screen may flicker, or parts of one of the other pages may appear over what you are looking at, or the screen starts to pixelate, if that’s a word, or sometimes goes black or blue. It’s very random whatever it may do at the time. We already tried the soft reset with no change. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to check if an app you installed is causing the problem. To do this start the phone in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then you will need to find out what app is causing the problem then uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs in Safe Mode then the next step is to do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this might already be caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
